thall04 11 Posted January 26, 2014 Hello, everyone!! So I am scheduled for surgery February 20th! Yay!!! Six weeks later, my parents and I are going to England! I'm sure I'll get some raised eyebrows at this, but I'm going no matter what. My question is for those people in England. What do you suggest for Protein Shakes, soft foods, etc? We will be there for about 12 days. I will be just starting solid foods by that time, and I'm just wondering if there is anything I need to avoid. Also, I'm not anticipating any issues, but if there is a problem, where are the good doctors? We will mostly be in the Swindon, Bristol, Chepstow area. Then we are heading to London. Any advice, tips, or general motivational speeches would be most welcome!
mooncat 106 Posted January 26, 2014 Great idea to reach out to locals! I can't help with that, but I can tell you I asked my surgeon about how long to wait before traveling internationally and he said 8 weeks because any complications that are going to occur typically happen within 8 weeks, so you are wise to scout out a doctor in the unlikely event of an issue. Your NUT has a different program than mine as we must be 8 weeks post surgery to move to solid food. I would recommend a discussion with you NUT about things you could pack and take along. Some favorite Protein Bars would be a good idea. If your trip will involve a lot of walking, be sure to factor that into your plan as you may need to increase the frequency of eating. Good luck and have a FABULOUS time!!! 1 thall04 reacted to this

Make sure you wear your compression socks and drink lots of fluids throughout the flight. Also lots of walking around and moving your legs and arms whilst in your seat. Take your own Snacks for the flight that you have already tried so that you are not restricted to what ever they are serving on the plane. For the first time ever we didn't lock in Breakfast with our accommodation because it would have been a waste of money. What we did was take shakes and Protein Bars with us plus we would buy a whole meal toasty with cheese and ham for breakfast remove the crust and share that. lunch would generally be a Soup that we would share and dinner would be a shake or we would order entree size cheese platter or anti Pasta plate and share that. It wasn't always easy and that is where the Protein bars would come in handy as a replacement if we were out and about and could not find a meal that was suitable. We also had a pit of cruskit's in our room ( not sure what you call them a very light wheat cracker that practically melts in your mouth) and a tub of light Philadelphia cream cheese that was also great in the morning or at night. Also take your own drinking bottle and have it full at all times and drink drink drink during the trip. Hope you have a great time.
