Sleeve 2/10.......excited

Recommended Posts

Hey loving life, lurk no more...... I am so excited for you!!! So at Kaiser do you just do the required steps (classes, labs, tests, etc) and then you schedule surgery or do you then wait for authorization?

Reereeoc Kaiser will pay for the surgery if you go through their program which is meeting their surgeon, lab test, EKG, and 24 weekly classes, another lab test, and fitness test. Once that is done they will preform the surgery. I wanted to start this journey in 2012 when I was doing research but instead I had a baby... :) so needless to say I am sooo ready... :)

Lovinglife,

Congrats on the new baby and the new journey. So it sounds like February for sure. What's your current weight goal weight etc. do you have to do a liquid diet before surgery. I am currently on a low carb (under 20 a day) until a week before. Then I am on shakes for 1 week and Clear Liquids the day prior to surgery. As the days click by it is really feeling real. Excitement, scared, nervous, all in one. Trying to get every room In my house spotless since I will be out of commission for a few weeks. Only taking 9 days off from work and have planned it around the two holidays so I don't miss too much time. Then I am only working 3-4 days a week for three months. Good thing I have lots of vacation time! Well let me know how you are doing what you are doing..... I found a shake i like- Bariatric Advantage just in case you are lookin

ReereeOC,

Thank you it will be hard not carry my daughter around since I won't be able to lift anything over 10lbs. My current weight is 257 and I am 5'2. My over all goal is just to be healthy. I am hoping to loose at least 100 lbs or so. I want to be a lot more active with my kids. :) Diet wise I cannot gain anymore weight per DR orders. I doing 1-2 Protein Shakes a day until surgery. Work wise I will take maybe 5-7 days total. I do have a flexible boss who will let me work from home a few hours a day until I am feeling better... I am really training myself that I will need to get up and moving. Where do you live and do you have family support???

Lovinglife,

I am in Orange County Ca. I havent really told my family as of yet. They were not really keen on the idea, hence why I am here looking for help. It kind of sucks, but it is what it is. My brother is taking me and picking me up. I am taking about 8 days off and then I am the same as you.... job is pretty flexible; however, I have not told them why I am out...just requested vacation.

Let me know how everything goes with you. I am on a two week count down.

My surgery date is 2/10/14 too. I am on day 8 of a 21 day liquid diet - this is HARD!! I am down 8 pounds so far though :-) I can't figure out how to enter my weight loss - I do not see a ticker option under my profile...

I figured out the ticker thingy :-)

Kristin, I think you have to do the ticker from the full website and not an app from your phone, a least that was my experience.

21 days.....and I thought my 7 days was crazy, I am low cal/low carb until next Monday. Then liquid.

Good question - I'm not sure. I have been told that I will be the first of the day so it should be pretty early. I will be sleeved by Dr Alvarez @ Endobariatric in Piedras Negras MX.

What time is your surgery, Kristin?

I am on myfitnesspal as solea78. Ive bought Centrum chewable multi Vitamins, chewable Calcium + Vitamin D and dissolveable B12. Ive also started taking Vitamin C as we have this terrible strain of the flu and some H1N1 in our province right now...the last thing I need is to get sick now!

As for Protein shakes I think the best Ive found si far are at costco. They are mixed drinks @160 cal, but they have very little fat and sugar and are 30g of Protein. Cheap too. I plan on buying a high quality flavorless Protein powder to eventually stick in all my blended crap food that Ill be drinking over the next 2 .5 minths...lol. I swear I hate that I let mysekf get to this point somedays-but Im very excited about my second chance at a healthylife.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
