50 pounds down from my highest weight – UNBELIEVABLE. 50 pounds since 08/21/13 when I stood on the doctor’s office scale and saw 256.6 and cried. I have never lost 50 pounds before; this feels amazing and somewhat surreal. I have 56 more to go, which seems a little daunting as I write that number.

So many things have happened during this journey – I’ve celebrated successes and I have cried at perceived failures. I have consumed more than 200 Protein shakes and logged over 170 miles since my surgery date of 11/14/13.

I have learned a lot about my family and me. I have learned that I get cranky and lash out when I feel out of control, specifically when it comes to food. I have also learned that my family is very resilient to my lashing out.

I have found that I like going to the gym and getting in a good workout. I feel better after a workout and more clear-headed. I like challenging myself on those days where I don’t feel like going or try to come up with an excuse to not go.

I know the next 56 pounds is not going to be easy. I need to continue sticking to my plan, exercising regularly (including the weight training that I haven’t started yet – I don’t know what my aversion is…), and keep my head straight. I have said it before – the mental/emotional part of this journey is the hardest part.

A big congratulations!

I look at this like it's war. Before surgery it was face to face battles, many of which I lost. After I got my powerful weaponry I began seeing obesity's backside. On the run now, I ran the bum out of my country. I still have to guard the border but he is a defeated foe.

You have him on the run, no mercy!

Congratulations on your latest victory in the war on obesity. 50 lbs is a lot of weight and you are almost half way to goal. You should be flying high right now. Keep up the good work.

You lashing out..............no never......not you...lol

You are so right when you said the mental/emotional part is the hardest....I really believe that you are in good shape if you recognize that it will never be a walk in the park....

We have been in a war for so long our guard is up and we are waiting for any attack...Set backs, self sabotage, cravings, what ifs, self image and so on...

We are so much better off though because we have started to see ourselves for who we are and who we can be...We are learning to eat healthier, be healthier, play healthier and live healthier. It won't come so easy for us because of the addictions and past struggles with food.....

One day at a time...One week at a time...One month at a time....One year at a time....

We will never have the privilege to relax about this new life....Our tool depends on it! but it will get easier so I am told!!

Waiting, waiting...no it won't...My newest thing is I can eat more then I used to and now I have to figure out the difference of being full to just satisfied....Dam it is always a learning curve.............

I am so proud of you young lady.....Keep kicking its ass eh!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Thanks, guys! This has been a good week for me - probably the best one since surgery...

The mom of one of my son's friends whispered to me the day after my original post, "You look so good! How much weight have you lost." She was floored when I told her. I thanked her for saying something. She is a skinny as a rail and has been since high school. She said, "I never know if I should say something." I told her, "I am totally fine with you saying something. It means a lot. I've worked hard for this and having someone notice is important."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
