Anyone Eat Just to Eat?

Recommended Posts

I dont know if this sounds strange, but I really did enjoy eating...not just for the full feeling, but I like the way things taste. So when I eat something that I like now, I obviously am not able to eat as much but would love to eat more just because it tastes so good. Like one bite of chocolate cake? Forget it! I would love a whole piece!!!...though I cant do that. So I guess I feel somewhat deprived...not because I shouldnt eat more, but because I cant eat more. Is this twisted or what? Anyone else like this?

I too enjoy the "taste" of food rather than the full feeling...I explained this to my nutritionist and she said and I quote "maybe you should chew the food and then spit it out" eww gross right NOT I have done that before (of course when no one was looking LOL) just for the taste of something. I know it sounds extremely gross that's what i said but just to get the taste of it is enough for me.

Well if you are twisted so am I!! I know exactly what you mean,I don't miss the full feeling, I miss the taste, and I get cravings and have to have whatever it is and then can only handle a bite or two. So we both may be twisted but at least we know we are not alone!

Good point, Jack! :)

GayChris, you just described me to a "T" but I am trying to change what I like to taste, so that if one bite isn't enough, then ten bites won't be so bad, either (like grilled veggies, stuff like that). It doesn't happen overnight, and it's certainly not been easy, but I have not had anything sweet, nor a huge bowl of Pasta (one of my faves) for at least five weeks now and it's not so hard anymore.

But yes, I love to eat just for the taste. And the texture. That will be the hardest thing about being banded to me: having to chew and chew and chew and chew. I hate that mushy warm liquid that's left over.

Ha, of course, that is why I got fat. Sure, I ate more when I was upset like most people. But mainly, I just love the taste of food. Mostly, junk food. But, like Faithmd said, I have had to slowly train myself to like the taste of better, healthier foods. The thing with being a bandster is, or at least for me, some of the things I loved before taste really nasty after you have to chew and chew and chew them. In the same instance, there are other foods I never really enjoyed until I started to have to chew them more and have learned they are quite tasty.

I know how you feel. I love to eat and I guess that explains why I needed the lap band in the first place. Most of the time I can control myself but I do have my moments when I just want to eat, not becuase I'm hungry, just because. One of the hardest things is that I still love to cook and I cook extravagent, rich, and creamy foods. I still deal with putting more food in my plate than I can eat but I stop when I get full. I think about my eating habits like the people in Europe, I have a little taste and I am grateful that I at least got to eat a little bite of such good food.

Oh my gosh Belle, I still load up my plate like pre-band too. I guess some old habits are hard to break. I load my plate up and then my husband and kids always laugh at me because they know I probably won't even eat 1/3 of what is on it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
