When does the stomach swelling go down?

Recommended Posts

Since I was originally banded, I had lost quite a bit of weight before needing a revision due to a partially slipped band. I can wear a size 12 pants comfortably around my waist, but they're big everywhere else. Mind you, I have that lovely flab that hangs over my 3 c-section scars & that won't go away unless I have cosmetic surgery (which I won't do). It's quite unattractive & that alone prevents me from going down a size. I digress.

While I've noticed that my stomach isn't "as" bloated as it originally was, I can still still it's swollen. I was just wondering when this swelling might go down? Also, if you had surgical glue, how long before that fell off on its own?

I can't really speak to the swelling, but as to the glue: at my two week follow up, the NP told me I could help it along a little. She told me just to rub a little bit, gently, in the shower, to help it come off. Not to pick or pull at it, but that rubbing a little bit when it was warm/moist would help it fall off on its own.

Did you np mention how to rub, up and down or in a circular motion? It sounds like good advice I might try it too.

@Bellahugz she didn't say exactly how to do it. I just rubbed a little, not much. I'm glad I had the glue - easy to deal with, no itching, and my scars are close to nonexistent.

I was bloated and swollen about two weeks. At least it was that long before I felt comfortable wearing jeans vs elastic waist pants. And I I did the glue rubbing thing at about two weeks. The glue was already gone from 2 incisions, but still a little left on the other two.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
