Hello everyone!

I started my journey in May of 2013 but it was a long time coming. I've considered wls surgery for years. Did some research. I was really looking into gastric bypass. The more I checked in to it I realized it wasn't for me. Too invasive, to many complications and it just plain scared me. Fast forward to April of 2013. Was watching a dvr'd show (swamp people) and a commercial came on for a lapband seminar at one of our local hospitals. Decided to check it out.

I listened and asked some questions and listened to some success stories. Got excited. Talked to my husband about it and said I wanted to make an appointment with the surgeons office. Went to my first appointment and after talking to the Nut and the rest of the staff decided this was the right surgery for me. Met with the surgeon a couple weeks after that.

Went for my mandatory 6 months supervised weigh in's, Used that 6 months to start my lifestyle change. Ended up losing 40lbs on my own. Then surgery day came (Nov 8th 2013). Sailed thru that. Had about 10 minutes of buyers remorse. Got over that and got on with my new life.

I have lost 35lb since surgery. Had my 1st fill 2 weeks ago. Feels like there is no restriction in my band. I need another fill. The same day I had my fill my family doc took me off metformin (diabetes) and blood pressure medication. I was on top of the world.

I have a bad habit of weighing everyday. I gained 3lbs in a week. Asking myself why. I hadn't changed anything. Doing everything I am supposed to do. I was freaking out. I had my husband hide the scales then e-mailed my Nut. She didn't respond ( which was strange) so I e-mailed the nurse. She got back with me within a couple of hours. Found out Gina(Nut) was on vacation. I told the nurse my worries and that the only thing different was I was off the metformin. She said that could be the culprit. Not weigh, not to worry and she would have Gina get ahold of me Monday. This is my story to date.

I feel great so I can imagine how I will feel when I lose the rest (75lbs). I exercise 5 days a week and I am enjoying it. So even though I am only 2 months out I can tell this is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Thanks for letting me share

Congrats! Sounds like you're doing great!

I just wanted to mention that it's not unusual for our body weight to fluctuate up a few pounds, thanks to Water weight. I, too, weigh myself daily, and sometimes my weight will fluctuate 2-3lbs within a day and stay up for a few days. Usually upping my Water intake makes those lbs fall right off :) Just a thought!

Take care!

until you reach your maxium fill you will be hungry. this is bandster hell. when you finally reach the green zone the place we call being at a perfect fill you won't feel so hungry between meals. not in green zone yet myself it takes a little while depending on your band size. but welcome tothe site. it will be a really helpful tool to your sucess.

Hi there, so glad you found us here! I was banded 11/5 and I'm so happy with my new banded life. You are doing beautifully -- don't let that scale rule your life. I go down then up a bit and down again a little further then level off. But it's coming off bit by bit! My goal is 150 and I have about 70 more pounds to go. Best wishes and welcome!

Welcome, congrats to your start and getting off your meds! You are doing a fine job. don't worry about the slight ups/downs of the scale. Salt retension and other environmentals can cause that. Stay the course, best wishes, Karen..aka.kll724

Welcome...sounds like you got your head screwed on right!

Just be warned....this website has over 200 thousand members? Which means you are going to hear just about anything at anytime....it can get very confusing, perhaps negative....don't take any of it personal...it is THE INTERNET after all, not your friends and family....

You cannot be too sensitive and thin skinned....

I for one, am glad I did not find this group until AFTER I had my surgery...

But like I said...sounds as though you've got a good grasp on things, so you can already sift through plenty of the "Talk" and focus on what's important....

Good luck...you'll do just fine.

First of all, congrats to you, Carmen. You are really doing great!!!

Then, thanks to B52 for reminding me what taking part in a forum in the internet means.

It might seem odd my participating in an American wls surgery, since I'm Italian and I have to use a foreign language to communicate and share with you. There was an Italian forum, but after 3 years it stopped working for me.

Too muche emotional involvement, which sometimes turned into gossip..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
