Hi! I am so excited to have this surgery, but I have no insurance. I need to see if anyone has any ideas as to how I go about applying for a loan for this surgery. :help: My mom had the lap band 2.5 years ago and has just done wonderfully. I just had a baby 8 weeks ago and I am told I have to wait until she is 6 months old to have the surgery. The funny part is before I got pregnant I had insurance that would pay for it. I did the 6 month dieting under dr supervision crap that the ins company required. I had already done my psych eval, pulmonary eval etc.. I was ready to go, and oops, found out I was preg! Oh well, I wouldnt trade my precious lil princess for anything! :girl_hug: But NOW! Im ready to go! So if anyone has any great experiences with loans or any great ideas for me, please let me know! Thanks! Shawna

I got mine through Capitolonehealthcare.com. They have pretty good interest rates also!! Maybe check with a doctor in your area..they might know a few also.

I did mine through Care Credit. We also used this for our daughter's braces. It was a big help. You have so many months with no interest--I think it is 18. If you need longer, then there is an APR. It was a really big help for me.

I'll have my surgery on Monday, 3-26-07. If it hadn't been for Care Credit, I'm not sure I would have been able to have the surgery.

Watch the fine print on all loans for your surgery!!!!

I had the option of a refinance, home equity loan or capitalonehealthcare.

My doc. gave me info on capitalone......you go online and select "cosmetic" to apply. They offer (through some doctors) a temporary 0% = 18 months are 0% if paid off...you have 48 months to pay BUT...if you are not paid off in the first 18 months...you owe 19.99% for ALL/EVERY BIT of the original loan amount!!!!!!!

A home equity (if you have a home and equity) is a higher intest rate than a refinance--but usually is shorter term.

I hope to pay off the 0% interst loan in the first 18 months...and if I think I can't.......before the 18 months, I'll then do home equityloan to pay the rest of it off!!!

That means...I get ZERO INTEREST for probably 17 months, and then pay off anything left from that first loan, with home equity at less than 10% for however much longer I need (don't cut the 18 month deadline too close or it may cost you a bundle).

I would rather pay another 18 -19 months at 10%, than all a full 36 months at 19.99% if it takes three years to pay!! YOU may be able to pay it sooner or later than my example?????? If it will take a long time for you to pay, and you don't want the hassel-capitalone also offers a plain " low" interest plan.........they can let you know in minutes if you are accepted.

These are only a few ideas...the possibilities are endless...depending on your circumstances.

At Capital One's website, there is an application available for cosmetic surgery, and it is considered cosmetic surgery. You just need to type in the amount you are wanting to finance. Mine was $15000. You will know in seconds if you are approved.

Kudos to this poster. This is a very well-written explanation

And I was a Loan Officer.

Try your local credit union or your bank. My bank gave me the loan and they just zap the payement right out of my bank account!!! Best investment I ever made.

At my job I could borrow from my 401k. There were certain rules though. You had to have been working there for so long and you could only take it out for certain reasons like buying a house or surgery not covered by insurance. And you only get 5 years to pay it back, but it's at a 3.9% interest rate and you end up paying the interest back into the 401k account! Obviously I need to continue to work there for those 5 years or I would have to pay the rest back upon my leaving.

Also, they just take it directly out of my check. For some strange reason, that makes it less painful than writing a check every month!

Our 401k plan is through Fidelity. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
