Banded 'til I'm Light

Recommended Posts

Hi All:

I am brand new at this, but I am in need of support!!! I've been told this is the place to be. I had my lap band procedure done on March 9, 2007. To date I have lost exactly 10lbs. Monday I begin stage 4, ground foods. I was wondering if anyone has any appetizing recipes to help me get through until I am able to eat solid food again. Also, in much of the literature I have read, there is very little Tomato based products suggested, (V8, Tomato Sauce, etc), is there a reason for this? Can it be hard to digest or something? Well, I wish you all the very best of health and luck in your weight loss journey and I am looking forward to beginning this journey with all of you.

Thanks, Lisa

PS: I am from MA and my Dr was Dr Haag at Baystate Medical Center. I am 41, a wife mother, Noni, and a singer. I'd love to meet some people that are going through the same time frame that I am so we may progress through the different stages together. :nervous

Just wanted to say congrats, hope all is going well with you. I am going to be getting my band at Baystate also, with Dr. Romanelli. How was your experience with them. The program seems wonderful, but to have someone here firsthand who is going to Baystate is great. I am not yet scheduled, I have my 2nd appt with the nutritionist on 4/6 and will meet Dr Romanelli then. Ok, I'll leave you alone now, lol, it's just exciting because you are the first one I have seen that got their band at Baystate. Take care,

Lisa

Hello there...

I was just banded this past Wednesday, 3/21! I am so excited and things are going great. My partner bought me (us) this great cookbook titled "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery". Being that I'm only 4 days out of surgery and have yet to get the stage of eating anything other than liquids...the recipes in this book sound AWESOME! What's really cool it that it tells you at what stage (week) post surgery you can eat that particular recipe and the portion size accoring to the week you are in. I can't wait to try some of the foods.

Congrats on beginning your journey...I'm excited that mine has begun too.

Take care,

Jason

I've never heard it put quite that way, "ground foods", I assume that's another word for mushies. While you're in the mushy stage it's easy to add a little Protein to foods while you're grinding them up.

Good luck to you both.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
