Help question about hunger

Recommended Posts

Thank you that was great info. I'm having a freak out moment. I just realized I will never be able to eat girl scout Cookies or homemade chocolate chip Cookies again. I can't believe I'm actually having these thoughts but I am. It's so weird. I'm starting to second guess myself and I've been so sure all along. I could care less about food as in meals but I love sweets. I can't imagine never having them again.

There is a common misconception that bypass patients have a long list of foods that they will never be able to eat again. That is simply not true. I'm well over two years out and you could count the number of foods that I can't eat (so far) on one hand. It's not about what you can't eat. It's about what you choose to eat, or not eat. That's where the surgery comes in. You are going to be amazed at how good food choices very quickly become second nature - especially if you maintain a food log. And the good news doesn't stop there. Pre-op I could eat a whole sleeve of girl scout thin mints. After reaching my goal weight I'm totally satisfied with one cookie. I know that sounds hard to believe but many members have posted about the same thing.

Between now and your goal - no cookies. Once you've reached your goal and your weight has stabilized, it's about control not denial. And...

You're gonna love the new you!!

You guys have such great words of encouragement, thank you!!!!!!! That makes sense. Oh how wonderful it would be to be satisfied by one cookie!!!! That alone is reason for surgery, lol! A friend of mine who had the surgery said the reason she has never had sugar again is because of the dumping syndrome she experienced after surgery. She said after that she never wanted it. Thanks everyone for your wonderful help and advice. I'm ready!!!!!!!

I've read a lot about acid creating a feeling confused with hunger. I had this the other day (10 weeks out today), I took a Pepcid and the feeling went away. If your friend is experiencing hunger, she may want to try a proton pump inhibitor or acid reducer (approved by her doc, of course). Best of luck you on your surgery!

This is DEFINITELY true the farther out you are.

Hello to all you brave souls fighting the fight or about to engage in battle!! I am almost 9 years post open RNY and I can assure you as well it

Truly was well said!! Like an ex.. But the only physical symptom that had ever somewhat minute the feeling of slight hunger since the day I woke from surgery and I realize 100% it is not and never was hunger sometimes it has been air or something that has not set well with my pouch but NEVER hunger and it is taken a lot of training to realize that!!! But we all have not come this far to let the " Hunger Games " that rage in out mind control the gift and tool we have been given!! So we must press forward with all our strength and with every bit of compassion I promise you all.....

" THIS TOO SHALL PASS " these precious words have helped me and I pray they bring comfort to some of you ! When you realize the truth how freeing it is.. Unless there is a medical problem example a leak in the pouch etc you have pain in that case don't hesitate it's not in your head go see the Dr get it resolved we should be enjoying our journey it can be beautiful ... I've climbed fools mountain many many times on my journey :-) by way of own stubbornness fallen down and up the mountain I go lol , I've learned a lot from so many and if I can help I'm here anytime as well :-) Thank you all and Keep up the fight!!! Welcome Belagia! It is unusual to have the benefit of the experiences of someone nine years out. I think you'll find this a very special place with a lot of very special folks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
