DLCoggin 1,788 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Thank you that was great info. I'm having a freak out moment. I just realized I will never be able to eat girl scout Cookies or homemade chocolate chip Cookies again. I can't believe I'm actually having these thoughts but I am. It's so weird. I'm starting to second guess myself and I've been so sure all along. I could care less about food as in meals but I love sweets. I can't imagine never having them again. There is a common misconception that bypass patients have a long list of foods that they will never be able to eat again. That is simply not true. I'm well over two years out and you could count the number of foods that I can't eat (so far) on one hand. It's not about what you can't eat. It's about what you choose to eat, or not eat. That's where the surgery comes in. You are going to be amazed at how good food choices very quickly become second nature - especially if you maintain a food log. And the good news doesn't stop there. Pre-op I could eat a whole sleeve of girl scout thin mints. After reaching my goal weight I'm totally satisfied with one cookie. I know that sounds hard to believe but many members have posted about the same thing. Between now and your goal - no cookies. Once you've reached your goal and your weight has stabilized, it's about control not denial. And... You're gonna love the new you!! Meintraining 104 Posted January 24, 2014 You guys have such great words of encouragement, thank you!!!!!!! That makes sense. Oh how wonderful it would be to be satisfied by one cookie!!!! That alone is reason for surgery, lol! A friend of mine who had the surgery said the reason she has never had sugar again is because of the dumping syndrome she experienced after surgery. She said after that she never wanted it. Thanks everyone for your wonderful help and advice. I'm ready!!!!!!! 1 DLCoggin reacted to this
Georgia 2,908 Posted January 24, 2014 I've read a lot about acid creating a feeling confused with hunger. I had this the other day (10 weeks out today), I took a Pepcid and the feeling went away. If your friend is experiencing hunger, she may want to try a proton pump inhibitor or acid reducer (approved by her doc, of course). Best of luck you on your surgery! This is DEFINITELY true the farther out you are.

DLCoggin 1,788 Posted January 24, 2014 Welcome Belagia! It is unusual to have the benefit of the experiences of someone nine years out. I think you'll find this a very special place with a lot of very special folks!
