Tired of Liquids

Recommended Posts

Hi all, tomorrow marks my 1 month surgiversary from being sleeved. I did a 2 week liquid diet (Protein drinks) only prior to my surgery on 12/23/2013. After surgery my surgeon placed me on Clear liquids (broths, sf popsicles, Protein drinks) for an additional 4 weeks and advised I could not start full liquids until 2/4/2014...ugh! But that was changed because I advised the nurse coordinator at the bariatric center I was beginning to gag on whatever I attempted to eat/drink. The nurse & Nut advised me on 1/16 I could move to full liquids that day. YES, YES, YES, finally I got excited to begin taking in foods with a little more substance. The full liquid stage contains blended cream condensed Soups, yogurt, apple sauce, natural juices, veggies (baby food green Beans and carrots) YUCK!!! I am so over this. I was advised I can move to soft foods now on 1/30. But I am ready now!!!! I want mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, deli meat, seafood, cheese etc... All the foods I was advised I could have for the soft stage. I am aware of the importance of what my Nut and doctor are doing... Giving my stomach time to heal. I just want to eat something. I no longer can stand SF anything... The artificial sweeteners are just bad. Funnier thing is I am not a big sugar person. I was able to do artificial sweeteners b4 surgery, now I'm just sick of it. One more week b4 I move to the next stage is what I keep telling myself, but this is soooo hard. Has anyone went ahead and attempted to eat b4 being advised to by their Nut/doctor? I'm loosing weight just tired of liquids.

You think your ready but be prepared to only be able to eat a spoonful! Good news is it gets better and you will be able to eat more but for now unfortunately follow the dr's orders. Once I got on soft and I couldn't eat I had a total aversion to eating altogether. It has gotten better and will continue to get better. Patience my friend! Good Luck!

If you just can't wait make sure you chew chew chew...and its true...you will be lucky to get down a spoonful or two...

My doctor put me on 4 days clear liquid followed by 10 days of full liquids, on day 15 I can start purée for 14 days so it depends on your doctor. I'm only 4 days after surgery, I'm hating every second of it, I love drinking Water but actual "food" like Soups, Jello, Protein Shakes just make me sick! Good luck!!! :)

I'm with you! I could not tolerate the full liquid diet and I was extremely lucky! I didn't have to do it prior to surgery and only a couple weeks after!

Like others have said, though, prepare to be surprised. I couldnt tolerate eggs at all for MONTHS! A bite here and there of other things were okay, like refried Beans, but mostly, Soups and creamy cheese was my saving grace.

Good luck to you!

Hi,

I am three weeks post op. This week I was vomiting on anything that was not a liquid (even apple sauce). My doctor said that my stomach was just not ready to move to the next stage (I was on a pureed diet). So now I got moved BACK to liquids for a week and then I can try pureeds for another week. If at my next appointment (the 12th) I am able to slowly progress to soft foods they will let me. If I can't I may have to have another Endoscopy. This is not good. I can't stand the taste of broth, they make me sick just thinking of them. And forget yogurt. I tossed them all. My head and my stomach are sick of them. I'm just stuck with Protein shakes, and if I can get them, in smoothies.

My head sure is ready for soft food. My stomach is not!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
