If you are talking about: www.myfitnesspal.com

Here's how you go about it: click on goals, then click on change goals. You now have two options. 1. Guided and 2. Custom

Click on custom. Click on continue. The next screen you see will let you manually change everything including Net Calories Consumed. When you are done changing everything, click the green box at the bottom that says: change goals.

Hope this helps.

I can't honestly answer that. I would talk to your nutritionist. Mine never gave me a number. The only goal she gave me was to get 100 grams of Protein a day. I have been logging my food for the past 3 weeks and I rarely eat more than 1,000 calories a day. I do hit my Protein goal about 80% of the time.

I would go with whatever your doctor recommends... If he/she didn't give you a calorie goal try asking them but until then if you have no other idea of what to shoot for I see people just out shooting for 500-800 and then later 800-1000 but I don't typically find people post op consuming over 1100... I am still pre op and I eat 1200 a day, the 600-800 is what my doctor recommended for me immediately post op

I love my fitness pal! I am using it for my Pre-Op weight loss. Have to lose 5% and get my NUT classes in for the NUT to sign off. It has taught me ALOT! I track even when I don't eat right, I have learned how high the sodium is in foods that I thought were a good choice to eat. I track my exercise as well. Can't wait to see it move tracking my weight loss....down about 5-6 lbs so far. Good luck w/your post diet.

I use MFP and wear a wrist band called FitBit Flex and deal with the same questions... I can track my liquids but they focus on calories not Protein count! Thanks for the input on " how" to change or customize my goals!

I began using MFP about two and a half months before surgery. I lost 40 pounds! I had surgery in June, and have used it everyday since I found the app in April. I recommend it to anyone wanting to loose weight. I am nearly 7 months post op and I have now lost 154 pounds. I really believe that MFP is the key to my success. I also believe that continuing to use it will be critical to long term success. It is a magnificent tool!!

Well it will come as no shock to anyone who has read some of my posts but I am a huge fan of MFP. Actually I'm a huge fan of logging period. Very, very powerful tool. MFP is great but many forum members love Spark People and there are other apps that do pretty much the same thing. Whatever app you choose - LOG!!

It does make a huge difference! I'm addicted to logging, i plan every meal of my day 3 days in advance, sometimes I'll even log in advance and just adjust it if need be. If I don't log in advance I'm logging while I am eating. I started with a journal in May 2013, in October I started using MFP, either way... Log your food!! Btw I am still pre op, you don't have to wait until after your surgery to start. I'm not saying you have to log while you eat like me (because I love to log) you can still enjoy your food, log everything at the end of the day if you cAn remember and it works for you. However you do it, log it, you will see results.

I totally agree!! I love seeing patterns and having facts instead of anecdotal evidence to point to. I have been logging using MFP since 2008 when I got my band. Since being converted to rny it has become the most powerful tool in my arsenal. Weeks I don't want to meal plan, I go to MFP and pull a report of a 'good week'.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
