HI all. I am a little embarrassed to write this thread but I am concerned and I figured it was good to ask...can someone reassure me how normal it is to be going to the bathroom(not to pee) each day? I am 5 days post op and yesterday I had to go #2 three times and so far its twice today. I know i'm on liquids so things run through faster, but is this normal? I am starting to think something might be wrong with me! :help:

I think it must be normal because I was banded the same time and I am always running to the bathroom. Today I actually was driving an hour to work and didn't quite make it to the bathroom. No one knew and I cleaned up find but talk about embarrassin'! I started full liquids today and tomorrow are mushies so I'm hoping that will help. From what I've read, we are not alone.

Your so lucky that you can start full liquids and proceed to mushies so quickly. I have a few more days of Clear Liquids and frankly I feel naseous from it. I actually added some milk and cool whip today because I just couldn't take it anymore. Not hungry as much as I felt a little dizzy and I am just sick of the idea of broth and Isopure. ugh! Let me know how mushies go.

Thanks so much. I feel much more relieved knowing this was normal. I was going to call the doctor but I didn't want to sound like a lunatic if this was common. Thanks again!

Hi sweeTHEArt~

WHen I was on full liquids, I was drinking Atkins Advantage premixed shakes and they ran through me like grease thru a goose! I'm almost 2 months post op now and if I even start to become constipated, all I have to do is drink an Atkins shake and WHAM it is solved..lol. Works better than Dulcolax for me. I also add Benefiber to almost everything I eat or drink,,it really does disolve and you cant taste it and it doesn't change the texture. I had IBS(irritable bowel syndrome) before banding and have not had it since I've been on Mechanical Softs. Good luck and keep posting,,there's a wealth of knowlege in those who have gone before us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
