Left Sided Back Pain

Recommended Posts

Yup, it's me again. :girl_hug:

I'm having constant back pain in left side, from spine, into the ribs and towards the front. It's very painful and only since being banded, although I am worried it could be pancreas. I had that checked a year ago and all was well.

It feels better when I put heat on it, but still hurts. I'm seeing my band doctor in two weeks, so I'll talk to him about it, but anyone else? Ribs in left front hurt too, but not as bad.

I have had kidney stones that felt like that.

Really?

I know the kidneys are that high, and in the area I hurt. The whole mid back area has been sore and tight for a few weeks now.

I also began a workout routine with abs and weights, I thought maybe that was it, but this feels really strange.

Are you sure it isn't on the right side too? because i've had that feeling too and i had gallstones (got my gallbladder removed one week and a half ago). Also the pain goes away when you put heat on it (like a warm bath) because it stops the spasms on you gallbladder, at least thats what my doctor has told me.

My back pain is in the middle of my back. Terrible spasms that start within a minute after I start eating. I am really worried...I had a stomach virus and vomited up a storm on Thursday, and have been having these spasms ever since. I thought it was because I'd overexerted my back at an aerobics class on Wed. but now I don't know. I'm on a liquid diet and even drinking Water starts the spasms...has anyone ever had anything like this? I'm wondering if my band has slipped??? I can't seem to find many symptoms of slippage on here!!!! Help!!!

leenerbups - I am a registered nurse - your left sided pain may be kidney related. Pancreatic pain is mid-abdominal and toward the right pain. Pancreatitis usually involves pain and vomiting severe enough for a trip to the ER. Have you noticed the color of your urine? If it's on the orange side or you see frank blood then you have a kidney stone. At the very least you should see your PCP have have a urine spec and a blood test to rule out kidney stone or infection. Best of luck. Wendy

I have left-side pain as well. My urine is a normal color. Someone else on here suggested it may be Constipation. I am going to the doc Tues. and will ask about it. Let us know if you find anything out about yours!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
