getting the jitters and having some questions

Recommended Posts

Ok Guys, my surgery is scheduled for Feb 10. I got Lap Band 6 years ago, and it just hasn't worked out. I am listening to everyone talk about how its hard to get liquids in, and the chest pressure etc....When I had the band, I didn't have any problem with sipping or anything, and when I had the Upper GI after, the lady administering it made me take gulp after gulp. That wasn't a problem with the band, but how on earth can you keep drinking the barium with the sleeve if we can't really even sip Water right for a while.....Just curious :-)

I didn't have any problem getting Water in. Only the day of/after surgery did I not have a lot of liquids. After that, it was no problem. I was taking very small sips right after surgery, and when I went to take my barium, he doctor said after my sip, 'The was a wimpy sip, now try for one a little bigger!' LOL

I told my doctor I was surprised I didn't have any trouble with liquids at my post op appointment a week later and he said basically the smallest amount of swelling between different people can make a difference on how easy or hard it is to get in your liquids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
