first fill next week and weight loss.

Recommended Posts

I got banded on 12/19 and at first lost 20lbs but when I started eating food when the mushies stage. I have gained 5-10 of that back. I know that the first weeks till the first fill is to heal and if you don't lose a lot its not that big of a deal. However my eating habits have changed since before the surgery I sometime feel I am eating more than I should be but I am not eating nearly as much as I used to. I know there is no restriction to my band and when there is I will be eating less and my weight loss will be good. I have my first appointment to get a fill next Tuesday 1/28.

A couple questions I have about this and some other stuff.

1. Should I be still losing weight now that I am eating ewgular foods.

2. When I get my fills is there a time of when not to eat or drink prior to the appointment.

3. I am still restricted to lifting, pulling, pushing no more than 20 lbs but is there some exercises I can do or any exeecise videos I can get that are not to strenuous.

Now is the time you should be measuring your food and keep measuring it until you can safely measure out a cup of food without anything. That is the only way to ensure you do not over eat. If you are eating more then you should then that is why you should measure your food. As far as losing weight some people do and some don't but if you are eating solid foods and mainly Proteins you should still be losing. When going for a fill, it is best to go on an empty stomach but I would call the doctor and ask what they want you to do. You most certainly can walk even if your lifting is restricted. That will also help with weight loss.

for a day keep track of the calories you are eating. that includes Protein drinks and Protein Bars. i lost a lot while on liquids and than nothing. so i kept track and was surprised that i was eating almost 1400 calories. using even fat free milk with my Protein added 110 calories to a already 100 cal. Protein shake and thats 210 calories. and than when i added in my 3 meals and meat protein well you can see how the calories climb. you are to do what cheryl has said. measure your food. good luck

As far as whether you need to adjust your eating before your fill, check with your material from your surgeon. if there is nothing in there, call the surgeon's office prior. Mine never had a restriction on before fill, but after fill I can only have Clear Liquids for 2 days, and full liquids for 2 days. Best wishes on your first fill. Karen..aka.kll724

I measure my food and use a phone app called Fitness Pal. It helps me track my Water ,protein & calorie intake. I find very helpful, especially tracking my progress. Good Luck!

I am 6 weeks post-op and have kind of leveled out with the loss right now...I get my first fill tomorrow 2/27/14 and my doctor said nothing to drink or eat 2 hours prior, but like Cheryl said I would check with your own doctor. I know that this is well past the time you submitted it...but just added my two cents. Hope all went really well for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
