I was banded on the 16th. The first 3 days were easy, but yesterday and today have been pretty rough. I can't even drink Water without pain and have to burp it up. Is this normal for the first week?

No, call your doctor in the morning and see if you can take some anti inflammatory meds? You do not want to get dehydrated this early or ever really.

Try sucking on ice chips so Water slowly goes down the tube. Cold Water may help reduce the swelling from surgery too. Alternate every hour or so with warm/hot tea. Slowly sip with a small spoon.

Best wishes, you are probably swollen, but calling your surgeon's office is,always, good advice. Karen..aka.kll724

I called the surgeon this morning and they wanted to see me immediately. So I'm in the waiting room. They mentioned I need an unfill. I thought we didn't have any saline in our band the first month??? I will soon find out and hopefully feel better soon. I tried hot tea this morning and even that caused discomfort after time. :(

How much did you weigh at time of surgery and what size of band do you have? If you don't mind me asking? I see many of y'all have had saline put in at time of surgery. That's why I'm asking.

I weighed 269 and I have a 10 cc band.

Thanks for the reply....I hope you feel much better and PLEASE don't get discouraged about the unfill, it's better to start slow and be comfortable. Rather than regretting your decision. My first fill started at 3cc's but was having a hard time keeping Water down. I felt a gurgling sensation in my throat so luckily I was still at my drs office and had 1cc removed. Today I had my 3rd fill and I have already noticed the difference in my hunger. I'm not hungry!!! ☺☺☺ Yay for me!!! By the way I have a total of 4.5 cc's now. Good luck in your journey and let's give it our ALL!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
