...who else watches My 600 lb. Life? I never watched those shows when I was obese and out of control but I watch now as a cautionary tale. I have to say that I'm apalled when I see these folks eating with such relish even when they know every mouthful is killing them. It reminds me of who I was...and hopefully will never be again.

i watch it as a reminder of how close *i was* to being that way

i am sure i resembled them eating......i do not pity them but until

they really (decide) to do something about it, and get off their

ass.....it wont happen......i say that as i did just that for 2+ years

and look where it got me???? if you (want it) it can/will happen.

I just started watching that- I too, as Carolina Girl says, look at it like- wow, that could have been me if I had kept on going. I applaud them for having the surgery- and empathize with the struggles. One I watched, the woman was having trouble with her DH, and I could relate (though mine is not nearly as bad as hers was!).

Definitely a cautionary tale- I know one I saw had a band, and they removed it and revised to a gastric bypass- the doc made a comment about how she didnt' use that tool (the band) or something.

Nope, not me. Not gonna happen. I don't watch this, the biggest loser or any other "reality" show that deals with weight. IMHO there purpose is not to help, but to profit form the pain and suffering of those who are fat.

I watch them to remind me , that it could have been me , as most of my family is obese and have always been , I am really afraid for my Mother as she can barley breath or walk not to mention her heart and diabetes, so yes I am scared for her and they are afraid her heart won't be able to handle any wls so they won't do it , I don't think it's fair , but I knew I had to do something then my thyroid started back up it was when I couldn't walk and body was tired all the time I had no energy that I knew I had to do something , so yes I do watch and want to say to the enablers , instead of enabaling why don't you support them .

I watched the biggest loser once. It was a woman, but her husband got on board and lost a lot of weight too and both were able to have the skin surgeries. What I couldn't figure out was the woman kept talking about how her husband was doing so good and was exercising 10 to 12 hours a day and she could if she wanted to but wasn't inspired. Seriously? Do these people not have to work or something? I have to tac my gym visit to the end of my work day and not get home until 8pm at night. I know you're not supposed to eat late, but I wouldn't get to eat at all if I didn't. So, no I don't watch it. Im too jealous.

Most of the people on that show gain their weight back. Like Terry, I never watch any of them.

I'm a bit back and forth. I couldn't stand to watch it prior to surgery, but it seems almost inspirational to me. I know a number of them gain it back after they get to the real world. Part of me is extremely jealous (and I just told my fiancé this), that I wish I could take 3 months off of work to workout 10-12 hours a day. I wish I had the ability to just focus on me and my health, but that's not my life.

Biggest Loser - on NBC

600lb, 800lb, etc people - TLC

Unless you're independently wealthy, that's not most people's life.....unfortunately! I wish I could have a chef to cook perfect meals on a daily basis :-)

I watch it once in a while and it's usually with morbid fascination... i'm usually channel surfing and come across the show and then it's like watching a freight train wreck.. really horrible but you just can't look away. I do agree with an earlier post that shows like this just seem to take advantage of the process with a view to making money and that most of them do seem to gain their weight back - which mostly seems to be from a lack of support. that their families don't seem to be on board with truly wanting to help them. one episode that comes to mind was where the guy had lost the use of his legs and arms and his MOTHER was feeding him taco's after his WLS i truly just wanted to yell Shame on you...

shows like that tend to give all WLS a bad name as they don't seem to truly highlight all the wonderful success stories many of which are right here on this board.

But it's certainly a cautionary tale of where we all could end up with out any kind of intervention.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
