Well, I'm still pre-op and I'm getting down to my last few appointments before surgery now and I'm getting so anxious!! My surgeon's office won't give me a surgery date until I'm cleared by the pulmonologist and the pulmonologist won't clear me until I do a sleep study. I have my sleep study scheduled for this Saturday. I really was hoping for a February surgery date but now it is looking more like March, depending on how long clearance takes! I'm wondering if anyone else out there had a similar experience? How long did it take you to get clearance from the pulmonologist after your sleep study?

Just keep jumping through their hoops until you get to the goal. I'm not sure what the heck a sleep study has to do with getting lapband but if that's what they want! I would ask the people at the sleep study place how long it will take them to send the report to your pulmonologist. Then when that time is up, call the pulmonologist's office and ask them how long till they give clearance for surgery. Don't be afraid to be on their ass. Doctors are human and plenty of them procrastinate. Best wishes on your journey.

I had my first sleep study Oct. 30. I actually had to do a second one in Dec. where I slept with a cpap machine. I got my surgery date Dec. 22nd and my surgery is scheduled for this Friday. I too didn't understand what the sleep study had to do with surgery but it was explained that they want to make sure you are breathing while sleeping and whether or not it will effect you being under anesthesia. Just keep chugging along and before you know it, your surgery date will be here.

Good luck to you!

Agreed I have 2 sleep studies first to see if you have then to try each mask... The head back to docs for him to say yes or no... Then head to store to pick yup machine ... But before you know it surgery day will be here... My waiting was the 4 nutritionist meetings I had to attend and that was once a month! Good luck!

I had a sleep study too, and had to get the sleep machine. It took me awhile because I didn't have a Doctor to read it and order my PAP machine. Just keep on going on and you will get there. Good Luck.

i was a lucky one,. 1 hour into my sleep study the tech came in and put the cpap machine on me and said i needed it badly. after they put the cpap on i slept the rest of the night. when they woke me in the morning i had, had the best night sleep in a very long time. the same day they did a narcolepsy test in which they tested me to see if i fell asleep during the day. and i did. so after a very long night and day my apnea doctor faxed the baraitric surgeon that i was being fitted for a cpap and he okay'd my surgery. good luck on yours. if you need one believe me when i say that it is a real blessing instead of a hassle. i still wear mine when i am not feeling good or have allergies going on. my hubby said i don't snore anymore but i can tell the difference.

Thanks everyone! I'm not nervous about it anymore :) I'm actually kind of looking forward to finding out if sleep apnea is the cause of my constant tiredness! Those of you who posted about how good you sleep with your CPAP machines made me feel a lot better about it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
