donaboss 131 Posted January 21, 2014 Be been using my fitness pal and my own personal food journal to keep track of everything I eat. All I've been eating is yogurts, cottage cheese, SF pudding (not every day), mashed potatoes (not everyday) and watermelon. It never ends up being more than 480 calories a day and I walk every day during my lunch break for an hour and I go the gym and workout for another hour. I have no idea how many calories and carbs I should eat a day. Yesterday I had 489 calories, 8.5 fat, 72.4carbs and I am freaking out and I know this is from mashed potatoes and watermelon and finally 35.4 g of protein(I have trouble with this but I know it will get better soon) Today I had 455 calories, 5.7 fat, 51.9 carbs and 51g of Protein. Am I doing something wrong guys? I eat cottage cheese twice a day because each time is 16g of Protein and only 4g of carbs and 90 calories.. I am so nervous about the carbs... I am trying so hard. The only reason why I like the mashed potatoes are because it's hot food and makes me feel normal and full like really full. I tried to have broth but I was still hungry.. Any suggestions? I am a very picky eater and I always hated cottage cheese but this one is whipped and I am able to tolerate it.. Ohh and I finally started to take my Vitamins everyday even though I hate them I still take them...
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted January 21, 2014 Hi Dona! I am so not an expert but my first thought is the sugar in the watermelon, and the carbs in the potatoes. Some doctors recommend all these things, some say noooo! LOL. It is trial and error with us all. My husband and I, because of diabetes, shun all carbs and sugar. We stick to Proteins. So far managing that well/ Are you losing weight???? If you are following your doctors guidelines then so be it. I would think you are not getting enough calories or Proteins. You can add Protein powder to those potatoes. Good luck to you! I have no idea if we are doing everything right, I should begin writing down..... Keep us posted! magtart 603 Posted January 21, 2014 Yes, you can. I eat eggs, refried Beans w/cheese, baked fish. I have yet to eat any mashed potatoes. The thought of them kind of grosses me out and I have no idea why. I love mashed potatoes. The other day I had Greek yogurt with sliced banana and it was very good. shall258 12 Posted January 21, 2014 I'm having same trouble... I'm 4 wks out and have not lost in over two wks I've actually gained 3 lbs this wk. feeling really down about it and feeling like a complete failure. I've pretty much have scramble egg for bk or lunch, lunch turkey (the lil slices that come in the lunchsbles) and cheddar cheese. Or chicken salad. For dinner almost every night baked ck and green beans....and I've tried fished one time. Or sometimes egg again. All this stuff is mainly low carb...idk what I'm doing wrong. I attempt to add Protein Shake in at least once a day but it's just nasty to me. And I eat and full but very hungry within two hrs. I really try not to snack so I drink Water and it that doesn't wk go for the Protein shake. I have not started wk out yet, just due my schedule....any thought of what I'm doing wrong? And I can eat an whole egg do u think I'm over eating?
Schmincke 118 Posted January 21, 2014 It likely just a stall - that happens to everyone. Don't get upset by it! You need to talk to your nutritionist if the stall keeps up. My 5 cents worth: It might help if you look at your Water and Protein intake. Water over 60 oz? No more than 4 oz of fruit juice a day? At least 80 gm protein a day ?. I am trying to keep my carbs at 35%, protein at least 35%, fat below 30% of daily intake. My Fitness Pal helps me look at the overall nutrient profile through the day. If I get lots of protein and water, I am not hungry at all. 1 shall258 reacted to this
magtart 603 Posted January 21, 2014 My doc told me to eat every 2-3 hours. It makes sense since I can't eat much at one time. I can eat 1 whole egg with no problem, though. For lunch I usually eat 3 oz. of food, 1.5 of tuna salad and 1.5 of cottage cheese. I never seem to get to the veggies, maybe 1 bite and I am too full. donaboss 131 Posted January 21, 2014 I don't drink any kind of juices... Just water... I eat a sugar free candy daily just to keep my sugar normal but that's it.. Size surgery I did not like any of the juices. I love Water and I can drink a lot at once. So no clue what I'm doing wrong Uhg
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted January 21, 2014 We are told no fruit or juice. I wish this diet was universal! they confuse us all! LOL
Kindle 8,667 Posted January 21, 2014 How about refried Beans, lowfat chili made with ground turkey and beans. quiche, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, lowfat Soup (slip in the unflavored proteins), Laughing Cow cheese wedges, bean Soups, crab cakes made very lowfat, grilled fish, smoked salmon.... So many options! Ditto to all these suggestions. Bean soups have tons of Protein and you can purée them to fit your "mushy food" phase if you want to. Drink skim milk (1g protein per oz) Have you tried plain Greek Yogurt with SF Syrup or Water flavor drops? I'm on soft foods and still can't even come close to getting enough protein without my shakes. Maybe get unflavored protein powder and add it to EVERYTHING. I even add mine to my mashed potatoes (but I still eat no more than 1/4 cup/day) But it definitely seems you need to decrease carbs and really up the protein. slvrsax 301 Posted January 21, 2014 Split pea Soup has good Protein. I buy organic (comes in a carton and not sure on the brand) because it seems a little better on the sodium, no potatoes and carrots and add unflavored Protein powder.
MegaBob 46 Posted January 21, 2014 It takes a while for your body to burn your stored fat for fuel, it thinks you are starving. I found the weight loss kicked in when I hit 700 calories. I drink an 11 oz muscle milk for Breakfast (180 cal 20 protein) a chobani greek yogurt mid morning (140 cals 14 g protein) a small lunch deli meat or fake crab, about 70 calories and 4-8 Protein, a snack like string cheese or cottage cheese 45 cals 14 Protein mid afternoon, a light dinner and maybe another muscle milk or Protein shake if I have room. If I get the calories up I am not hungry and lose weight, a perfect combo.
