I had my RNY on 5/29/2013. Prior to surgery I had multiple health problems. Some where the typical ones; I had been diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and degenerative arthritis. I also had some non-typical health problems; these were lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune thyroid and fibromyalgia. I was taking approximately 20 different medications. I was struggling daily with my life! My weight pre-op was 309. I could not walk 50 feet without becoming so winded that I needed to stop and take a break. I couldn't climb one flight of stairs. My hips and knees hurt so bad. I was looking at possibly ending up in a wheel chair before long. That all changed the day of surgery! I have officially lost 100 pounds! I am able to walk and climb steps with no difficulty. I am no longer considered a diabetic and have stopped my diabetes medicines. I am only taking medications for my lupus, thyroid and RA! I have made a big change in my life, not only with the surgery, but I moved 700 miles to live my dream by living at the beach! My self esteem has soared! My husband keeps telling me that I will be ready for a bikini by summer! I have never worn a bikini in my entire life!

Congratulations on your success, you're a true inspiration to those of us just starting. I envy you living by the beach. My family and I went to Maui a couple of years ago, because of my weight I didn't get to do nearly enough. I'm hoping to take a vacation there again for my 25th anniversary in 2016 and I definitely plan on enjoying and taking full advantage next time. More hikes, more snorkeling, more of everything...... Good luck with the bikini..................... :)

Thank you for sharing your story. Truly an inspiration and encouragement for those of us who just at the starting line.

Well done also on moving close to the beach....I would love to do the same one day.

Congrats to you! 100 lbs is a great accomplishment! But better yet is the decrease in the amount of pills and the fact that you feel better and have more self esteem. Those things are priceless to those of us who have had health and pain issues prior to surgery! I started at 340lbs and was 205 this morning. Iam 8 months out and had gastric bypass to lose weight due to severe back pain; I was told I needed back surgery to fix the problem but had to lose weight first. I have since lost 135 lbs and had back surgery to fix issues. While I am still recovering from that, the pain is lessened and I am feeling better. I wish you continued success! You rock!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
