Care1175 58 Posted January 21, 2014 I am six weeks out from sleeve surgery. I had a rough last week with esophageal spasms but I was put back on Nexium and carafate and they have stopped. I think I am suppose to get up to 600 calories a day. I can't get them in! I feel like I would have to add bad foods to get up to those calories. I eat Protein first but then I have no room for anything else. Any help appreciated.
DestinClair1983 72 Posted January 21, 2014 How many times a day are you eating? Maybe if you eat your small meals more frequently throughout the day you'd be able to get to your 600 calorie goal.
Care1175 58 Posted January 21, 2014 The doctor said three meals a day.
Schmincke 118 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) What about Protein Shakes? Each has about 150 cal and maybe 25 gm Protein and likely12 oz Fluid. All good postoperative as long as they don't contain sugar. Lots of people like Premier Protein drinks from costco and SAMs Club. My doctor played them between meals. DestinClair1983 72 Posted January 21, 2014 Or maybe some Snacks in between your meals like yogurt or cottage cheese or some other snacks you might like.
Care1175 58 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks ladies but I am not allowed to snack between meals and the Protein Shake would be considered a meal and they want me to try and get all of my Protein from foods but I can add Protein Powder to my food if I need to. My protein powder does have some calories in it so maybe that is what I will do! Thanks for the ideas!
RXG 46 Posted January 21, 2014 Are you allowed to take longer to eat your meal. If you ate over a 45 minute period and slower, you may be able to get more in than over a 20 minute period. Not sure if this allowed or encouraged. Maybe a vet can let us know.
Care1175 58 Posted January 22, 2014 I did that for dinner. Stretched it out for forty five minutes. Seems like I was able to eat more! Going to put my unflavored Protein mix to my coffee tomorrow so hopefully I will get over 600 calories.
RXG 46 Posted January 22, 2014 Awesome! Keep it up. I think not getting in the Protein and cals could be a huge issue a few months out so we have to stick with the program.
