Hello

I go in for my pre-op testing on Wednesday, the same day I start my pre-op diet, I wanted to know what types of testing were done at your pre-op test, I do know and fully understand that each Dr. does different tests but I wanted to see how many of the same test were done.

I am kind of nervous and silently going crazy.

My pre-op testing was an EKG, blood work, and an x-ray at the hospital, nothing bad at all, it was quick. I didn't have a pre-op diet, I was told to lose 10 lbs...Then another time I went to have my stomach scoped & was put under...Good Luck..

I had an EKG, and an Echocardiogram, a pulmonary function test, arterial blood gases, full blood work, a colonoscopy, an upper endoscope, chest xray, psyche evaluation, and tomorrow I am going to the Pulmanologist for whatever he does.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have just posted a topic myself. I thought I would reply to you as best I can, though. My bariatric center put me through a whole lot of procedures, maybe because i am having my lap band removed and reverting to the sleeve.

My pre-op tests included:

  • full body scan for body fat composition
  • sleep apnea device to wear at home over (2) days time to record data
  • ultrasound for potential blood clotting
  • endoscope procedure to view the insides of stomach; which in my case revealed stomach ulcers and H. Pylori bacterial infection. Thus, I am on heavy duty antibiotics and previcid for ulcers.
  • Barium test where u drink the barium and x-rays are taken
  • 16 test tubes of blood for lab work
  • mammogram

It sounds like a lot and it is, but better to be very comprehensive rather than quick about things when you are going under the knife. In my case, at 52 years of age and (7) years of lap band failure (vomitting and getting "stuck"), it's probably necessary.

I just finished 2 weeks of pre-op diet food that I was forced to purchase through my doctor's vendor, which I find disturbing but something that can't be fought against.

Now I am in limbo, although my surgery was supposed to be done on last Thursday the 16th. Apparently, my insurance doesn't deem the gastric sleeve portion of my surgery to be medically necessary. Wish me luck with that!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
