Hi I had my surgery Jan 12 2007, had a rough start, but am doing great now. Have lost 25 lbs and feel great. Would love to talk about fills- had my first last week and did not get much of a restriction so will return next week and have a second one. Is this fairly normal?

Welcome AuntEm, congrats on being banded and having your first fill. If you do some looking around on here you'll find lots of info!

Yes, that is a theme that is VERY prevalent amonst bandsters: when do I get restriction? There are a few Bandsters who never get a fill, but it seems most say it's been between 3 and 6 fills before they hit their "sweet spot." (I've been kind of keeping informal track of the responses I've seen so I know what to expect.) Some folks it takes more.

Good luck!!!

Hi AuntEm, Welcome to LBT and Congratulations on being banded! I was also banded in January(1/30/07). I have lost 31.5lbs and just had my first fill 2 days ago. I have some restriction, but not as much as I'd like to have. I am going to call my MD next week and see if I can have another fill. I am not scheduled for another fill for 1 month. Best of luck to you. Gigi

Hi Gigi, sounds like you are doing great. I went in for my first fill about a week before I was scheduled to because I had no restriction and was having to exert much self control. That was about 10 days ago, now I am going back this week because I am not feeling it is right yet. I can't wait, it is hard, relying on will power. Thanks for getting in touch--doing this is so much easier with support. I am so glad I found this website--having this procedure was one of the best decisions of my life. Hope you are feeling the same way. Talk to you again-Aunt Em

Hi, I think there is nothing worse than seeing someone's thong sticking out over above their jeans.:girl_hug: It is so tacky and crass. Thongs should be kept hidden from sight at all times. Susannah

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
