I was sleeved on Thursday (1/16/14) and everything went well. My surgery was scheduled for 10:15a.m. and I was in recovery about 11:00. I was discharged at 3:00p.m. I was nervous about the procedure being outpaitent, but I was glad to get to come home. The only negative part was that the liquid pain medicine caused stomach spasms when I swallowed it, but it was not too unbearable. The worst pain was the gas pain, but it is much better today. Walking definitely helped the gas pain. I am on Clear Liquids for a week and I am having trouble getting the required amount in each day, but it is getting better. I just keep sipping Water and can drink about an ounce of chicken broth at a time. I am feeling pretty good today, but I do seem to tire very easily. I am scheduled to return to work on 1/27/14.

I'm hoping to return to work then too. I was sleeved 1/13. I didn't really feel human til today. Now I have head hunger, I think I just want to chew a steak so bad. I had to stay 2 nights in the hospital.

I never had a stall. I attribute it to logging every bite i ate and gping to the gym.

I spent 2 scheduled nights in hospital. I could not possibly have gone home the same day... Much too woozy. I am no spring chicken - I am 57 and that may be part of my slower recovery. Bravo! You must be very strong!

Everything you're experiencing is normal. However, everyone is different as far as the amount of time it takes to fully recover. My aunt, who is almost 30 years older than me, recovered a lot faster than me. The weakness is from the lack of calories and Fluid. sugar free Popsicles were my life savor during that time. If you're still suffering from gas pain, apply a heating pad to that area. It helps profusely. Good luck to you, and even though this is the worst part of post op, it will soon pass and you will be reaping the awards!!!

I'm glad your surgery went do well! It sounds like everything i went through, except the part about pain medication. The medicine didn't bother me, but i did have terrible spasms in my chest for the first two weeks. Even the tinest sip of Water (i'm talking using 4 swalllows to finish a medicine cup) would cause this pain that felt like gas to rise up and spread in my chest. It'd sit there for 30 seconds to 1 minute then disssapear. Eating and drinking became very difficult. Thankfully for me, the cause was the newness of my sleeve and it has since worn off. I only get that pain if i take too big a bite of food or eat something that diesn't agree with my sleeve (like a greasy, loose meat hamburger from Coney Island. NEVER AGAIN. it hurt a lot even though i didnt eat the bread)

Hi, all! I'm 7 days post-op from having gastric sleeve surgery. I spent two nights in the hospital, and I can't imagine having the procedure done on an outpatient basis either, but I'm glad to hear you are recovering well. I'm new to this website...I joined about 30 minutes ago, lol! I'd love to learn from fellow sleevers, and maybe make some new friends in the process. Any good tips to share? Sites/forums to visist? I'd love to hear from anyone, and I'll share any tips I learn along the way. Sadly, at this point I don't have any good ones...but hopefully that will change soon! Thanks, all!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
