1 year out. Down 130lbs ! Still some minor issues though

Recommended Posts

So I had sleeve surgery last January almost at the one year marker (the 30th). All in all I think I'm doing great lost a good amount of excess weight: I don't eat and drink at the same time. Main issues are I still eat fast sometimes and when I do I get these awful gas pains that start in my ribs and spread throughout my back. I notice it when I eat too fast or to much or sometimes if I eat potato chips which I try not to for obvious reasons. Also I have two small babies at home so during I work I drink more coffee than Water. Also with two kids and a crazy work schedule it's hard to always remember to take my Vitamins. In closing I hope all is well with you guys and gals. Hope the new year is treating you we'll. and if anyone has any tips hints or suggestions it's greatly appreciated. Oh as for the extreme gas pain I've been trying pepper mint tea, gas-ex, fennel seeds and walking and water.

That is just amazing! You have done a tremendous job. Wow!

Wish i had some suggestions for you, I still eat too fast, too. I like ginger tea and licorice tea for indigestion.

Hi thanks guys. Yes I still have my gallbladder and I don't take anything for reflux. I never burp or have heat burn or anything. Just occasionally probably 5-6 times in a year I've had this extreme gas pain in the ribs and migrates towards my back it's miserable

Talk to your dr about this gas pain. He can suggest how to minimize or do away with the pains I know what u mean about gas in the the ribs and back,

I also want you congrats on your weight loss success. Kudos to you. I am 6 weeks post op and I don't take my 20 minutes to eat slowly. oh I chew fast and chew it well enough to swallow almost nothing.. But I was raised eating days and for how many years I have been doing this ..it is def a bad habit hard to break. I did buy a timer recently that I will try out. Set it for 20 .. Then watch the timer on my progression. And slow down to make the 30 minutes.. Sounds unusual for me to do that, however, I don't know how 2 break my habit. Maybe eating too fast does cause some of the gas.

Congrats!!! It's very inspirational to read!!

Also, like SIS said above, it sounds like gallbladder acting up.

Best wishes, April

I'm going to have to agree with the gallbladder...mine did the same thing. Finally, it got so bad that I went to the ER for the second time and it was FULL of stones..they took it out the next day...

Congrats! I keep my Vitamins and supplements in a pill holder by my toothbrush and it helps me remember to take them.

Well done on the weight loss - that's fantastic! I don't know what to say about the gas pains - I usually get pains if I drink too soon either side of eating, or too quickly, like you said... As for Vitamins - I know what is like having kids around - but I have my pills, - both meds and Vitamins (of which there are lots) an I take them each morning as soon as I get up - I was reading up and it said its best to take the vitamins/supplements that I take in the morning, so that's what I try to do

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
