Hi everyone! So I have a question for all those post op. When I had my abdominal ultrasound, the doctor told me I had an enlarged spleen. He told me it is usually nothing, but that because it is enlarged, the risk that they would/could hit it during surgery is increased. So he told me if it was hit badly, he would just have to remove it. I know you can live without a spleen, but I am just curious if anyone else was told that their spleen was enlarged and how your outcome was (everything was fine or it had to be removed)? I really don't want a two for one deal, just remove a large portion of the stomach please ;)

Why would your spleen be enlarged anyway? I would be concerned about that as well. I hope everything goes well during your surgery.

I agree with BladeFox. I think you should contact your primary care physician and discuss the results of the ultrasound. Have you done any blood work for the surgery yet? I am sure it will be very telling if there is anything wrong, which hopefully is not the case! Best of luck,

The surgeon told me that some people just have larger spleens then others. He didn't seem worried at all. Just hoping they are able to keep away from it, and avoid that issue!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
