First day of food...

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had my first day or food today. I had 1/2 an egg (w 1/2 slice of low fat American cheese mixed in), cottage cheese (used a tiny bit of SF blueberry jam in it) and a few bites of wonton Soup w shrimp in it. I was only able to get 1/2 a Protein Shake in this morning as I am hating every second of them. Although I know I didn't get nearly enough Protein in i finally feel human!!!!!

My question is did anyone struggle with getting in enough protein once they went to food? Will this slow my weight loss down? Any help would be great. Oh how mice to be back on this side of the fence and chewing again!

My doctor and nutritionist both say that I'll be supplementing food with Protein drinks in the coming months. I'm totally fed up with them (the drinks, that is, I love my doctor, PA, and nutritionist!), but I know they're right. I REALLY hate having to sip the dang things. It was a lot easier when I could chug. I'm looking forward to the day when I can have a gulp of Water without worrying about slime!

Nice to chew food again, instead of only drinking it, huh?!

I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.

My wife and I were both sleeved (me 8 months ago, her 6 months) and had very different experiences. Mine was textbook, surgery, recovery and the whole fluids, mushy, soft food, regular food bit. My wife on the other hand had a tougher recovery and took much longer to handle regular foods. I have no problem getting daily Protein goal, while she needs a Protein Drink or two to hit her goal. We have tried just about every Protein Drink available and really like the Premier Protein (ready to drink) from Sams, as well as the Gladiator Protein (bulk container from smoothie King). I can drink one of the Premier Protein drinks in 2-3 gulps. My wife will nurse one for an hour or so.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I know that I am supposed to be drinking the damn shakes but ugh, they take forever to get down and I really hate them! Oh well I guess it's just part of the process. A part of me feels like if I feel so good w just food than why bother? I guess that will be a question for my NUT or dr on the next visit. Thanks for all of the support and comments, it's great to have other peoples perspective. :-)

I think part of why it's important for me to focus on the nutritional side of things is because I put too much junk in my body because it tasted good, and i need to change the way I think about food, replace "eat this, it's yummy," with "eat this, it's healthy." Otherwise, it's still junk food in smaller portions. Not to say I won't have yummy stuff, I just know I need to get my nutrients in first.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
