deckedout 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Simon775, don't believe what they say about not losing the first year just because you don't have as much to lose as someone else. My hubby and I were banded at the same time. He has lost 107 lbs of the 172 he wants to lose, I have lost 52 of the 66 or more that I want to lose. Before your first fill, practice those bandster rules. I tried to make sure I was drinking lots of Water, it becomes more and more difficult as you get more fills, so you need to practice. Freeradical, It seems many of the bands hold more than what they "say" they hold. Hubby is at 9.7 in a 10cc band and the fill doc is not the littlest bit worried. She said she has put up to 13cc in one of those. If you still drink with your meals, STOP right now. Myhubby was doing that, and didn't really feel much restriction. When I made him quit before he could get another fill, he tightened right up within a few days, and now is quite tight and hasnt needed a fill since October. Still losing well. My meals are different as I am usually very hungry and pretty wide open at night, but VERY tight in the mornings. I exercise AT LEAST 50 minutes 5 days a week swimming andmy DH and I have started walking about 25 miles a week to train for the summer walking season. Lots of exercise really helps the weight loss. tracew 2 Posted March 26, 2007 ....In my humble opinion.....I am an old bandster.....I was banded in 04.....you guys....ALL....need to relax....and here is why! 1 - You will be able to eat those naughty foods sometimes, in moderation. 2 - You are in the very early stages of being banded and still need to learn to work with the tool that you have been offered. 3 - It is exactly that A TOOL...you can eat around the band...(believe me I know) but you will be more successful and happier if you learn not to. 4 - Don't be so hard on yourselves. If you are even an ounce lighter than you were before....its a start. Keep up the awesome work everyone! POPT Tracey
myfoursons 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Before I totally freakout can someone tell me this, if the small Inamed band only holds 4cc why do I have 4.3 ccs in mine??? My Dr. said I have the small band and when I wound up with 4.3 cc at my last fill I said I thought it would only hold 4 cc. My docs said that the tubing itself holds an average of 1.2 cc's. It depends on how long it was cut. So, it isn't unusual for the band to be able to be filled more than the 4 cc's.
airwayman 2 Posted March 26, 2007 Before I totally freakout can someone tell me this, if the small Inamed band only holds 4cc why do I have 4.3 ccs in mine??? My Dr. said I have the small band and when I wound up with 4.3 cc at my last fill I said I thought it would only hold 4 cc. He said some hold 6 ccs and kept walking. Should I be having some saline removed? Also, I would appreciate some advice from people that have lost over 50 lbs within 6 or 7 months of their surgery. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. What does a days worth of meals consist of for you? banded 7/7/06 25 lbs lost (yep only 25) Hi Free. First, I'm no expert....I haven't been banded yet. But, I read a lot. Two things came to mind when I read your post. First, I've never heard anyone say a 4cc band holds more than 4cc but the doctor surely knows what he's talking about. Other bandits with experience will surely respond to this post. But secondly, 25 lbs. in almost 9 months? That's probably why the doctor put so much in your band. You apparently didn't have enough restriction and were eating too much. Look at the ticker factors for all these people on this forum. Yes, they're all different but 25 lbs. in almost 9 months is surely on the low side. As to your worries about erosion, a member posted that her doctor said in 1000 bands he had not had one erosion. I asked my doctor if that was possible, he said yes it was. He said erosion does occur but the risk is very, very small. JB
simmons775 0 Posted March 29, 2007 Thanks everyone for all of your responses to my post! It feels really good to get the support. I don't go to a local support group (haven't really found one yet) so you guys are my support. I get my first fill today at 3:30 so wish me luck. I hope that after I have a few of them, I will be able to look back on my original post and wonder why ever did I get so scared in the first place. Thanks again! Kelly:)
