I am petrified of dumping. Now what are the "rules" . I read so many conflicting stories. Is it no more the 20 grams of fat per meal. Or no more then 20 grams of sugar per meal. Or if it is 10 of fat you can't have any more the 10 for sugar? Ahhhhhh I'm obsessing.

oh your original question..dumping...lol. Don't worry pretty lady..dumping is inevitable..seems not ONE person has escaped it yet. Personally I think its a conspiracy..you've eaten all the right things, all day, BAM!!! DUMP..what the hell???..conspiracy..live it, love it, learn it. Nature of the damn beast!!

I heard other people say that too! It's a urban legend to keep you from eating the wrong thing. Ugh thanks so much!

It really really depends on the individual food and what else you've eaten. I've only dumped off fat once (explosive poop dump, lovely stuff) but I don't eat that much fried/greasy stuff...carbs and I have a problem. The first time I dumped it was on cream of wheat and I thought I was going to DIE. I was a couple weeks post op and absolutely eating straight off my diet plan....and ended up laying on my kitchen floor shaking, too weak to walk. I've since discovered that I CAN eat cream of wheat (a tiny amount) but must have Protein on board to level things out...same with rice, Pasta, etc....small amounts, with protein, and I'll be okay. Sadly, I've had to give up grapes. Of all things. They kick my butt every stinking time I eat them.

Why did cream of wheat make you dump? I'm scared of dumping too. I'm 9 days post op and had a mini dump of just poo and almost puke from dipping juice broth from chicken dumplings, . I assumed it was from the fat because I didn't eat anything

I have found the same thing. As long as I eat more protein to carb I'm ok. I've dumped three times. Twice were horrible and one mild. The first was from 2 ounces of watermelon. Probably guarantee you that is less than 20 grams sugar. That one was bad... then I did it again about 4 months post op on greek yogurt that has the granola you put on top but it was minor and didnt last long (I only eat low sugar greek yogurt now). Finally I dumped last time after eating a small banana. What was the common denominator all three times? Not enough protein or even no protein for several hours prior to having whatever triggered me. I keep an eye on sugar grams but really focus on protein more because for me that keeps me in check.

P.s. dumping is real and not fun. I only had diarrhea once with it but the heart palpitations, clammy skin, weakness is brutal!

I'm almost 8 months out and never dumped. I don't know if I will or not - I've never tempted fate. I follow my plan, avoid sugar like the plague (it's my trigger food), ditto simple carbs like bread, Pasta, and rice, and I always choose low fat foods. I've heard that combining Protein with carbs helps prevent dumping too. When I have a little (love those skinny little pretzel sticks) I also have Protein with it.

I dread dumping - it almost seems inevitable. From personal experience I know bad things ALWAYS happen at the worst possible moment.

I was told to stay below 15gr sugar - I try to keep it under 10gr. I was avoiding high fats anyway but since having my gallbladder out I'm even more conscious of fats. I've had a couple instances of severe gas/gas pain and thinks fats are to blame. I've been told it can take a while for your body to adjust to the bile being added continuously to the intestine instead of being stored and released as needed. It's best I stick to a low fat diet for a while. :-p

true dumping is related to carbs and blood sugar crashes. Cream of wheat is almost nothing but carbs. I now know I'm carb sensitive so boom, down I went. Dumping from fats is an entirely different creature and is more gastrointestinal misery....it sucks, but for me the carb crash dump is much much worse.

Ty soccermom I will keep that at top priority. I hate to puke and when I had lap band I had struck episodes of the clam skin and fast heart rate.. so I'm familiar with this and hate it!

My WLS team used to have cream of wheat on it's list of recommended foods until last year when they removed it. It was removed because it caused dumping. It didn't matter to me - I always hated the stuff! :-)

For instance!!!! One of my go to breakfasts if I don't want a shake or bar or want to cook, is Peanut Butter toast. Averages about 17 carbs, 12 fat, and 8 Protein with my ingredients (I know it's not perfect, tests why I don't do it often...but I LOVE it!!!). Eat it 1-2 times a month, maybe, never once have I had an issue with it...until this morning. It wasn't horrible, but a definite mild dump, heart racing, clammy, dizzy, queasy. Not sure what I did to deserve that this time :D

I don't puke with dumping. Queasy, but never feel the. Need to throw up.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
