Go thru the op again, what a let down. Oh well, but I tell ye if I ever ran into that halina one again she would be sorry!!! :blushing:

OMG it's great to find some fellow Irish on here!! Im delighted now lol well im not banded yet, but I really think I am going to go ahead with it. I am 30 yrs old, 5 6" and 210lbs, I have about 70+ to lose. Iv lost them loads of times before but i cant keep them off :blushing: I have already been for a consultation with Haven Cosmetics, but backed out at the last minute.. I was in the bank, with the cash in my hand, with the lodgment slip filled in and everything and I just took a panic attack in the bank :smile2: I'd swear it was my Aunty Ann looking down on me.. anyways, they went tits up there a few weeks ago, he was a pure gangster  so now im researching where to go to have it done. I have heard wonderful things about Dr De Bruyne in Belgium, who quoted 4100 for the op, accommodation for myself and my partner for three nights in Belgium and all taxi fares etc. The gas thing Is Cosmedico who are agents for Dr De Bruyne quoted me 6900 and 150 for each fill afterwards

Oh they do love to rip us Irish off dont they :lol:So by booking it direct im saving a fortune. They charge 220 for each fill if they DONT do your operation so im still saving.. However, now Iv found another clinic called Auralia here in Dublin who are doing it 4900 including a years aftercare and theres no need to go abroad  Have any of you heard of them or what they are like? I would love to hear from Irish Bandsters and what your experiences have been like..

hi all i went with dr chris de bruyne and im so pleased i did excellent service,he is the second buisiest surgeon in europe so very experienced that is y i chose him hun havnt heard much of the company you are talking about i wouldnt trust them it could be acs under a new name for all you know, take care chosing,im so glad i had it done though:thumbup:

Sorry 2 hear that Shannon .....its a bummer

I could'nt get a fill this week because my port has flipped , and apparently i need corrective surgery to get it back in position. Talk about a money making racket ......but she says that if i need an emergency de-fill , they wont be able to do it .....so that makes the decision easier

Hope u get sorted out soon Shannon

hi lads, just new here. Been very down lately with my weight, and after years of yoyo dieting i'm seriously considering a lap band. I'm based in Dublin and would prefer to stay over here to have surgery, mostly because i don't think i could get anyone to go with me abroad. So can you please tell me the places that do it in Ireland and prices? Their doesn;t seem to be many??? Also the one in Belgium, looks very promising, any feed back incase i can get a friend to go. PRices, hotels etc.

Any comments would be great, just can't do this for much longer, had a serious melt down the other day and am feeling very low about my self.

Thanks

Hi down in the dumps, oh dear I know how you feel Its crap being fat isn't it. You know life is short and ive decided to go for it now. The last 10 years of being on a diet has left me about 4 stone heavier! How does that happen? I've a provisional date booked for 12july so I just have to pay my deposit and bobs your uncle. Brussels here I come. Chris de bruyne has a great reputation and it's cheaper than going to England. £3950 as opposed to £7,000 in England. Let me know what you decide to do.

Hi 'down in the dumps'

Glad to hear you've chosen the band as the way forward for you, I know its been the best present I've ever given myself. smile.gif I have been banded 4 yrs and I've had my ups and downs, overall I'm happy even though I was banded with ACS! angry.gif Anyway, the reason I've decided to answer your post is because you are choosing the Hospital Group who are ACS under another name. They are not to be trusted and in spite of having a nice consultation, with respect, its post operative care you should be concerned about. You may well be ok, I was lucky, you could be too. As a concerned banded woman, I would encourage you to go and have a free consultation with the Belgium Doctors. I have only heard good things about these people, they took me on for aftercare when I had nobody to go to. Yes it is abroad, that is what put me off, I paid 10,000 Euro when I could have had a better experience, a better band and aftercare service from the Belgium Dr's for 3,500 Euro back then. I wish I'd have gone to them in the first place, but everyone said to me "oh stay at home its safer" well they were all wrong. Please for your own sake, take your husband along also, you will get to speak to other banded people in the office, and you will have everything explained to you. Please you have enough time to check them out at least. They come to Dubliin every month where you can meet with them, and talk to their current patients. Good luck with everything.

Hey everyone ,haven't been on here in years but just got a message about a topic ,i totally agree with Coco !! Down in the Dumps i've been where you are and if there is one piece of advice i can give you is ,please consider Belgium !! i'll try and cut a long story short ,i went with ACS angry.gif which are The hospital Group in disguise ..they went bust as we all know and i was left there for yrs without a fill !i just had the fill from when i went for the surgery that was it and then it was bye bye from them ,and if i thought The hospital Group were gonna help ,well i was in for a big surprise ,never got help or fill from them ,eventually found that the surgeons from Belgium were doing fills in Dublin and was i the happy girl ,even tough my port was all twisted and i had the Aldi version of a band that ACS had put in me,they could not have been nicer and such gentlemen ,and i went on to lose 3 stone after hardly any weight loss because of being let there ,and i tell ya i was lucky to have them last year when i started to feel very sick and couldn't hardly keep drops of Water down not even a spoon full of water so i rang The Hospital Group for help as i was so scared and i needed someone quick to help me i was crying on the phone and very scared ,well that was last Oct and to this day i have heard NOTHING from them,oh i'll get back to you they said ,oh that's terrible they said ,oh we are very worried about you ,so worried they NEVER even rang me back ! ,i rang Belgium and i cried with relief because they were so good to me ,they got me in for emergency surgery a couple of days later ,as it happens my passport was out of date and they sent me letters from Dr Frederick himself so i could get an emergency passport ,my point about this is ,i was exactly the same as you saying oh stay close to home and all that in case something goes wrong ,well it took the surgeons in Belgium to help me ,nobody here did so if that doesn't speak volumes i don't know what does ,I WISH somebody had told me what i'm telling you ,i had e-mail after e-mail from Dr Frederik In Belgium telling me he was gonna fit me in and have a car and hotel ready for me and he NEVER let me down ,in fact i think i have a crush on him to this day ,even my husband admitted to having a man crush on him !!!! hahahaha ,he was that good ! when i got there i was soooo happy i forgot how sick i was and couldn't wait to have the band removed ,i didn't want it back in after what ACS put me through but if i had it done in Belgium i'd still have it in as my experience would have been totally different without a doubt ,and the surgeon was so good he told me that the damage inside me was so bad from what the cheap band had done to me that he wouldn't recommend me having a band for a few yrs to let my body heal,it was a totally different experience for me over there ,yes it is far away but as you can see by my story ,getting it down closer to you doesn't mean better ..pleaseeeeeee take your time and think as i was soooo miserable being fat that i jumped at the first place i seen and i was the same as you i thought oh i can't wait ,i wish i had waited and went to Belgium .If you do go with The Hospital Group i wish you the best of luck and it could be great but i could not sit at home looking at your message and say nothing to you ,this was not to scare you but to have every bit of info you can about people who are gonna be very important to you over the next few yrs ,best of luck ,if you need any more info don't hesitate to contact me XX

lads thanks for the replies. I have booked in with the hospital group and paid deposit so im not going back on it. No way i can go to Belgium, its just not up for negociation with husband. I have been talking to a few girls that got done through them in the past year and all are happy with their results and care.

Il have to just take it as it is, maybe il be back on here say they are the best ever! May be i won;t ! But i think that can go for anything. Realising things can go wrong, i am not going into this blindly, but i cant go on like this for much longer and if my only hope of getting it done is in Ireland, then so be it.

Thanks for all the comments

Shelly

P.s: I have gone for other consultations as well, they by far treated me better and answered all my questions

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
