Vet pals, I need new snack ideas!

Recommended Posts

I'm in need of some new snack ideas. What are you all eating for Snacks? I don't necessarily need strict Protein snacks, but certainly not a lot of sugar as I try to stay away. I get plenty of protein from meals alone. I find that I have to snack two - three times a day. Is that how you other maintainers are? I pretty much can't make it between lunch and dinner without a snack, and same goes for after dinner. I'm not a huge fruit person, and I HATE yogurt. I regularly do veggies with hidden valley ranch dip mix mixed with light sour cream. Growing a little tired of this. I'm also growing tired of Jerky and string cheese. I'm afraid I'm getting bored and going to start snacking on not so good things since everything I eat lately is getting quite boring! Please give me some new ideas! Must be delicious.... :)

Jenny,

Not sure how far along you are but, these are some of my favorites:

Jerkey (turkey and beef)

1/2 premiere Protein Bar

Slice of deli meat with a piece of cheese in middle

Plain,raw almonds

Fruit -apple/banana with 1 tbs Peanut Butter (prefer skippy but, PB2 really is better because of fat/calories

Note: my nurse for bariatric told me ALWAYS have some protein with fruit to help avoid glucose spike

sugar free fudge bar ice cream

I know you did not like yogurt but, Fage Greek yogurt 0 fat, add some granola and a handful of blueberries with a squirt or two of Torani sugar free Syrup.< /p>

coffee with sugar free Creamer, stevia and hazelnut sugar free syrup

Graham cracker, when I need something sweet

Sun flower seeds (in shell)

Hard boiled egg

Trail mix (got to watch this one)

Good luck

I found myself wanting Snacks in between meals and then I realized that I was thirsty. So now I try to drink crystal light flavored water between meals and after meals. It helps.... :P

Lots of great ideas here. I like cottage cheese - lots of things you can add to dress it up, sweet or salty. I also like kale chips, genisoy soy crisps (my best option when I really want popcorn), turkey pepperoni "chips", or a Protein hot cocoa or "soft serve" - in the summer time I'm in the office kitchen many afternoons making Peanut Butter or mocha "ice cream " in my blender with Protein Powder when others are drifting off to the bakery for a cookie.

suzis corn cakes or genisoy crackers with PB or hummus,

or deviled egg,

or stack up cherry tomato-cucumber-celantro+ on top of a few crackers...

I like "picky" foods that I can eat with my hands.

I eat sugar free 110 cal maple-brown sugar oatmeal.....

a few walnuts and cranberries added are nice...

3-4 tortilla chips with refried Beans and a dab of melted cheese with salsa...

I am very big on Harvarti cheese. I am sure it's pretty fattening, but I have at least one slice a day , and my other go to snack is 100 calorie packs of cocoa dusted almonds. I love those.

almonds, roasted edamame, turkey pepperoni, cold cuts, Quest Protein bar. I got a yummy recipe for like a cottage cheese kind of custard that I like to make. I make Cookies with extra Protein and stevia, oatmeal with some Protein powder or Peanut Butter.

Who makes the coco dusted almonds? Those sounds yummy but I haven't seen them at the grocery store. Wanna look for them! :)

They are made by Emerald and I get them at Walmart. I've never seen them anywhere else in 100 calorie packs. I have seen them by Emerald in little can/jar type things at other stores. It would be hard for me to portion them out in the can. They are really good.

I've seen other brands, but these are 100 calories and 4 carbs.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
