Can't take the gas pains

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday and I just can't take the gas pains in my abdomen any longer! I've been taking the gas-x but it doesn't help too much. Other than my pain meds which doesn't help with getting rid of the gas, is there anything besides gas-x that would work to get the gas out?

I knew it was going to be painful but I guess I wasn't prepared for how much pain. The noises are incredible too! I need some serious help!!

I'm starting to get hunger pains too which isn't helping. I could certainly eat something good right about now!! UGH

Meds didn't work for me either, the best thing was moving, walking as much as you can. Drink as much liquids as you can to help flush things out too. The more you walk, the better it gets though! Good luck!

Time to suck it up berry, it will get better, but time to man up! Im taking gas x and tums. Tums seems to help the best. And if you feel like you can have something good to eat, try it. I recomend potato Soup or something. Something to fill you up with. Protein Drinks help alot to. They really will fill you up. Walking around will help you burp as well. Your now banded and on to a better life, don't sit around and tweak about it. Enjoy it.

I would echo the walking, from all I read that helps the most. Gas-x and Tums are helpful when the gas works itself into the GI tract, but at first the pains are from the gas that is OUTSIDE of your intestines (where they insufflated you (puffed you up) with it to visualize your insides. For that gas, nothing you take will really help all that much, you have to get moving to get it out.

And please follow your MD's diet, if you are not supposed to have full liquids or cream Soups yet, try to hold off. The Protein does certainly help a lot! Get some unflavored Protein powder like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (try GNC or google it) and add it to whatever your diet is. The extra Protein should make you fuller longer.

I was banded Monday too and my gas has finally left me. I'll tell you thanks to this forum I knew what the pain was. It never felt like any gas I ever had. More like a whole body ache.

Today is the first day I feel good. I actually ventured out the Walmart and the Market. I'll tell you I was expecting something much different when it came to the pain. I had 2 c sections and neither one compared to the pain I had post opp. My doctor says I have a low theshold for pain and that he doesn't ever prescribe pain meds for this procedure. Well I got them, took them one time, got sick and never took them again. I am so glad I am through with that. I could dance I feel so much better. The heating pad, rocking in a chair and walking all got rid of the gas in a couple of days for me.

Good luck

Wendy

Walk, walk, and walk some more. I know you probably don't feel like it, but trust me, it makes a WORLD of difference!!

I went to my doctor today. Still feeling crappy. I'm having very bad stomach/gas pains plus I've had diarhea since yesterday. I'm especially having some stabbing pains in my right abdomen and now in my left shoulder...weird. My stomach is still popping like crazy and I get the pains to go along with it. My doctor it might be an intestinal infection. He prescribed me some medication, we'll see how it goes. I'm STARVING! I really need something to eat other than broth and Protein drinks! I would love some dry cheerios right now or a piece of toast!!!!

I'm so sorry you are going through this rough patch. I hope you feel better very soon. Keep posting here, and we'll keep encouraging you to get through this. Hopefully it will be a speedy recovery.

Nooooooo, don't do it!!!!! It could be the worst thing right now. (Lots of folks have problems with breads, though most also report toasted is easier). If you have an intestinal infection of some sort (lots of stuff *is* going around these days) you really do want to rest your gut.

There is a saying around here---liquids in=liquids out. You can likely expect the diarhea to stick around until you begin taking in heavier liquids.

When they placed your band they pulled your lower stomach up and stitched it over the band to hold it in proper position. To eat food now, would cause your stomach to work in a kneading fashion to digest and pass that food. You take a serious risk of popping the stitches holding things in place if you eat ANYTHING before you are supposed to! Get up, walk, go outside and walk---do something, do anything to get your mind off of food! We all did this and so can you. Someone told me if you lie your head down on the bed, and stick your hiney up in the air, it redistributes the air in the abdomen. It does not "let it out" it just eases some of the pain.

Hang in there!!! NO FOOD!!!

Hey Sherri,

There are chewable tums and chewable tylenol that you can take. My doctor told me that the strips don't work for everyone---and they don't.

I had horrible gas pains too--and left shoulder pain. I found that if I could lay horizontal it helped with the pressure---and when I wasn't laying I was walkin'. Just know that I understand. Keep your chin up :)

I was banded on Tuesday and know exactly how you feel but was told by a nurse to drink tea because the warmth makes the gas go down and out instead of up and stuck in your chest like I was experiencing and it works.

Hope you feel better.... Reesh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
