I was told it irritates the stomach lining. Some folks here do still drink it but I think this is after the healing phase is over. I'm happy with a Decaf now and again. Just one less addiction for me :)

I am 2 months post op sleeve, and I mix 1/2 Decaf and 1/2 regular. No problems!

I REALLY REALLY miss it. My NUT is one of the few who says no coffee until 3 months out. I saw her yesterday for my 1 month appointment and she said, "Imagine you have a cut on the outside of your body, and you rub acid into it. That's what's going on on the inside of your body. Once you are healed at 3 months, 1-2 cups a day is fine." I am managing to get by without it, but I can't wait for my first cup!!!

I think you will find a wide variety of opinions on this topic. I gave up coffee for about 6 weeks post-op and when I returned I really tried to cut down on the caffeine. While the link between caffeine and ulcers is not 100% proven, I do NOT want to get an ulcer on my tiny tummy. At home I brew half-caf to cut down the caffeine.

That being said I very much love my am cup of coffee!

I'm 3+ years post-op btw...

OMG coffee formed part of my daily routine from early on post sleeve! I don't know how I would've gotten through without my daily skim capp giving me a small caffeine hit, Protein boost and easy-to-swallow liquid 120 calorie morning tea!

I spoke honestly with my nutritionist and she was happy with it and I had no adverse reaction!

I'd definitely recommend skim milk however, full cream or even lite milk is just too heavy and I still hate that gross full sluggish feeling!

I had to cut out caffeine prior to surgery - doctor's orders. It was tough to break that 3-5 cup a day habit. I had to ween myself off.

At my 6 week appointment, my local doc approved one cup of regular coffee per day, but had to pinkie shake that I wouldn't go back to my old habits. I now have a delicious cup of strong regular coffee in the morning - I make it like I like it...some coconut milk Creamer and a teaspoon of honey (all gets logged). If I want another cup during the day, it's Decaf and no honey.

Why isn't we can't drink caffine again???

It stimulate stomach acid, dehydrates you, and stimulates appetite. All bad things early on after surgery.

Everyone does it differently on this board, but I followed my doctor's orders. No coffee or caffeine for first 3 months. After that, I may have Decaf on occasion, but also have caffeinated things like Chike Protein coffee or a skinny latte once every so often.

I used to drink 2 cups of coffee a day, plus ice tea at lunch. It was great to get rid of that addiction. Plus, whenever I do have caffeine now it really packs a punch, so one cup is fine, and I really enjoy it.

I waited 4 weeks before I even wanted coffee. I only ever drank iced and after 4 weeks, I returned to my 1 cup of morning iced. Love it and I wont give it up. I gave up my beloved diet coke so not giving up the coffee. My NUT and surgeon are fine with it.

I also have a beloved diet Pepsi habit....haven't had surgery yet and don't know how to break this large caffeine addiction. Titrate down or cold turkey? I drink 2 liters per day. I don't like coffee or tea. Well a Dunkin Donuts coffee coolatta with skim milk but besides that no.

Doctors office said after my last two appts next Friday the 24th they send all to BC/BS of Mass. For approval & it can take 30 days?? Anyone thoughts on 30 days for ins approvals? Thank you. Beth

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
