What should I bring to surgery? I just picked up gas x strips and I'm thinking of bringing Chapstick and a throw blanket?

I would bring a pillow for the drive home to hold against your stomach.

Or you can have whoever is driving you home bring the pillow.

Make sure you bring a charger for your phone. Definitely bring the lip balm.

I wouldn't have had any use for a throw blanket myself.

Oh and make sure you wear comfy clothes to the hospital so you can wear them home. I wore a loose empire waist dress and a cotton wire-free bra that fastens in front. Other people go with yoga pants, sweat pants, etc.

I agree with Bufflehead,

Bring a comfy pillow - put a brightly colored case on it to make it easy to spot when your released.

Loose clothes

I brought a bunch of stuff I didn't end up using, but the things I did use were lip balm, wet wipes, cell phone/iPad & chargers, slippers, small pillow, eye mask. This may be way too much information, but my TOM arrived early (2 days before my surgery) so I loaded up my travel case with tampons which I was not allowed to use. They made me use pads which drove me nuts and was one of the worst things about the entire experience. I haven't used pads since I was a kid, so constantly having to get up to change it & wipe myself down was a real pain in the rear. Plus, they collected my urine in one of those plastic things inside the toilet and some nurses were better about checking & discarding it than others. I've been home since Tuesday afternoon and am just now starting to feel like myself again. If you need something while you're in the hospital be sure and ask, ask ask! Obviously you'll want things (like water) that you can't have right away, but anything else that will make you comfortable be sure and let it be known! Get up and walk as soon and as often as you can, it really does help with the bloating & gas. Good luck!!

I got lip balm as well was so useful, comfy clothes as couldn't wear bra back home, took off all my rings earrings and so as they don't allow u in with them, take tampons just in case, socks, something u would be able to walk in after the surgery . Good luck

Change for significant other for vending machine, Insurance card, Earplugs, Chapstick, phone, charger, slippers, makeup, deodorant. My hospital provided small tummy pillow. Leave at home: jewelry.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
