So I am still pre op here, scheduled for 2/24. I have a question. Ok, to those who have had their sleeve for a while, how long post op would you say you were when you had a "normal diet"? Where you could eat what you wanted? I am planning a vacation for October and I will be 8 months post op. Will I be eating normal by then...? Would love to hear some post op advice!

Normal?? I mean I am 7 months post. I go to aruba every year and i just got back! Liquor is a no no and i never even had a sip of pina colada.. i eat normal.. truly just very very small portions.. Thats it.. You can eat whatever you want just have to watch sugar really. example if you would like.

Breakfast. id have 2 poached eggs with a little cheese on piece of wheat bread

lunch - very small salad.

dinner - chicken and a little vege.

Dessert Not many choice but id get a piece of sheese cake and eat a few bites just for the taste,

Thats about as normal as it gets ...

Every day is the same and you will see you will never or barely ever be hungary so food is like a pain in the neck now. its no where even close to being a priority. Its more I eat cause i have to now not casue i want to .. Thats the best way to put it.

Hope this helps

Chris

I was back on a normal diet by 6 months post-op. That does not mean Frankensleeve would tolerate every food, but I was able to eat the majority of foods - chicken, steak, pork, salad, most fruit and vegetables. pineapple and chicken took the longest before Frankensleeve liked them again.

I was still very restricted in the amounts of food I was able to eat, maybe a cup full at any meal. And I was still training myself to watch how much and how fast I was eating. It was very easy to take one-bite-too-many and get that "uh-oh" feeling.

I was able to eat most things by 4 months out. I never really even had trouble with raw veggies like lettuce, though steak was one of the last things I added and I don't have it much. I have a hard time with Korean hot pot and Vietnamese beef pho because the beef is really chewy. But everyday "western" food generally hasn't been an issue since around 4 months. I don't have much bread, rice, potatoes, or Pasta because they are too filling.

"Where you could eat what you wanted?"

ummm, what do you want to eat? What I want to eat would sure as anything get me fat/fatter again!

So, I focus on Protein and veggies ALL the time. I avoid sugars and carbs (because I CRAVE them and if I start I really can't stop (yes I am a junkie)).

So do on vacation and have a WONDERFUL time. Try to be "normal" and not place food at the top of the fun Pyramid!!!

At 8 months out you will be a pro!!!

Thank you everyone for your advice! I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to pack my Protein Powder, haha! ;)

I'm going out of the country at 6 weeks out. I have packed my Protein powder( and magic bullet), but am planning on getting most of my nutrients from food.

I really have not had any problem with any food that I have introduced. I am moving into the full healthy diet this week. I have yet to try raw fruits and vegetables, so that is still questionable.

I'm two months out and rarely find a food that doesn't agree with my stomach. Aside from lettuce, I haven't really tried raw veggies, but I love fruit. Beef and fish are easier to digest for me personally than chicken is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
