I'm in Perth. Had my surgery done on 5 Feb by Dr Stephen Watson. I had one week of Optifast, and am now 9 days post surgery. All up I've lost 9kgs already - can't believe how quickly it's coming off. Not that I'm complaining!

My husband had a sleeve done two years ago, and he has lost 100kgs - 100% of his excess weight. I've been inspired by his journey and decided this year it was my turn. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired, and it was time to do something. All the diets in the world weren't working, so I finally realised I had to do something permanent. So glad I've done it and now that the pain has eased, I'm enjoying listening to my new stomach and learning when to stop. :-)

Hi everyone, i too am from Perth, surgery was in Oct 2013... 24kg down, lots of work and definitely realized that its not a "freebie" ride. Have started exercising to make sure this was not for nothing. As an ex-bander I will not ever allow another opportunity to go by. I had lost 30kg with the band before it started acting up, I know i could have done more and feel I let myself down by not doing anything physically. Anyhow, good luck and feel confident you will get where you want to. :)

I have my operation this coming Friday(2 days away) and was wondering whether anyone had an alternative to the gas-x that everyone is talking about in the pre-op thread. I've found something called de-gas but its a small tablet and not a strip.

Hi I'm from Perth too. I had my band removed in November 2013 and sleeve done 8 weeks later in January 2014. Down 11.8kgs since 1st January.

Walking 30+ minutes at least 3-4 times a week.

It's not going to come off on its own, but a life changing tool I'm still learning how to use.

I didn't need anything for gas. See how you go. I found I had severe shoulder pain when I had my band removed, just walked and did the hot Water bottles.< /p>

Hi all,

Male, 44yrs old, 6'2, 120kgs and being sleeved in April 14 by Dr Chris Couch.

I'd be really keen to touch base with pre or post op people in Perth. I'm keen to talk, learn from your experience & to buddy others going through the process. If any of you know of Sleever's groups that meet in Perth, please let me know, I prefer the old fashioned conversation, to typing reams.

Thanks

Hi Lose40

I am from Perth post op, has my surgery 13 months ago & have lost 38k I am about 5 k down on the goal my surgeon set for me but wouldn't mind loosing about 5 k more but not too concerned.

Have to say the first couple weeks is the hardest but the rest pretty easy. It's been very interesting.

I dont know of any other Perth people or groups that meet-up, but am happy to meet you if that's what you would like.

You don't need to be worried it is the best thanh I ever did for myself just wished I had done it a few Yeats earlier.

All the best Karen

Hi, I'm here! Congratulations on your decision to have surgery. I'm day 5 post op of sleeve gastrectomy. It's so hard to get down food - takes me a few hours, I found the most helpful book Your Complete Guide to Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery - it has all the stages of the gastric sleeve diet including the pre op diet. Does anyone know if there is a Perth support group that meets up?

Bec101 - that's a great idea! So, who wants to meet up? Kazza, are you in? It would great for some of us that are fairly new to the process to pick the brains and get ideas from those of you who are well on your way to a FANTASTIC life :-)

Hi, I'm from perth too! Was sleeve Nov 2012 and down 52kg. I hate hate hate exercise so apart from running around after my 2 little ones I don't do anything! I still don't have much of a appetite so do have to pay attention to what I eat so I don't get to weak..Ive suffered gallstones and acute pancreatitis due to such a dramatic weightloss. After all that though this is the best thing I've ever done, I'm now 60kg and people who meet me and I tell them cannot believe I used to be so much bigger :)

That's is so inspiring, and I am so happy for you:) do you mind sharing how you went in the earlier weeks? I'm really struggling with this purée diet thin and have started seriously sneaking in normal food... Granted I only have 1 week of purée left to go, I'm just surprised that I can mane it with no issues plus I now feel like I am hungry all the time?? Like iv stretched my pouch whereas before I could survive hours in between the liquid shakes and stuff??? Is this normal or have I messed something up already.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
