First fill today!

Recommended Posts

I cannot wait to chew something:) I was banded 12/4 and all is well. My main challenge is the cravings. Peanut Butter usually solves it.

I want to know if anyone has been able to eat popcorn? ? Nothing like butter lovers, just plain and flavored with olive oil or olive pam spray?

popcorn was off my list due to the hard kernels. They could get stuck in the nooks and crannies of the pouch and cause irritation. I did have a couple of bites of popcorn when I went to the movies with my husband but I ate the poofy part off the kernel. lol.

Ok, I was thinking I would eat the puffy part as well and not the kernel too:) I guess I just have to try and see:)

Your blog was very helpful. I go for my first fill Jan 22. I'm nervous but know I need a fill. I have less and less restriction by each week. I had my first slice of pizza last night and was concerned because I had no issues. About two weeks ago, I had three bites of the inside of a Wendy's chicken wrap and it was stick/full and experienced my first issues.

Last week I had almost half of a Cowboy Crunch from Neato Burrito. It contained rice, chicken, sour cream, melted cheese, and sauces. I know I was feeling full and stopped. With no band, I would have stuffed myself to eat the other half.

My only concern is, if I'm feeling full, will that fullness eventually push my band to move or slip? I'm always afraid when I do feel full, I'm going to push the band out of place.

Coach, til you get restriction, your feeling of full won't be much different than before surgery though you will be taking in much less. Try to focus more on eating good lean Proteins as they stay in the actual stomach longer. If you take in a lot of carbs, they pass through faster and give you that bloated "thanksgiving" full feeling. After a few fills , it will be much harder to experience that type of full feeling though still possible with a lot of simple carbs. That old feeling is caused by the gaseous broken down components of the carbs. The new feeling of full will likely be a sensation somewhere in the chest/anatomical stomach area. You learn to recognize it and everyone's is different. My "full feelin" feels like a large bubble, course I've had plication and that could be a contributor. I stop when I think I feel that bubble coming on. This is all just my personal experience. But in the beginning I separated my carbs from my proteins in my meals so I would get the full sensation sooner.

I was nomming on popcorn just fine before my first adjustment. At that time, I was at five cc. I am now at 5 1/2, haven't tried, since there isn't any popcorn around. But I will, someday, soon. I can't resist popcorn, for long. :)

Just take it slow, one puff at a time, chew well and see how it goes. :)

No reason to be nervous, its a relatively simple procedure compared to what you've been through and it doesn't hurt! I've had 4 fills now and I'm just now starting to lose some weight. It's my own fault because I eat sugar that goes down easy like chocolate which I am doing better with now. I have had popcorn, in small quantities, with no issues. However, the point here is to lose weight so try to focus on healthy Proteins and veggies - saving things like popcorn and chocolate for very special occasions. Good luck with your journey!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
