8 weeks out, random pains.. help?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 11/20/13 I am an 18 yo guy starting weight 387 CW is 326 and I have been getting sharp stomach pains (not hunger) and random pains under the left side of my ribcage (where my liver is I believe) and just an all around tightness randomly throughout the day. I don't regret this surgery, I am very happy with the results so far, I just want to know if anyone else is dealing with this kind of stuff and how long it took to feel less pain.

We had surgery the same day! I weighed the same as you did then and now, how ironic! But anyways, it sounds like its a gull bladder issue. I have random pain but only when I drink really cold Water now and then. I would contact your surgeon or doctor and let them know whats going on. Its very common after weight surgery that the gull bladder will be the next to come out. I hope you start feeling better!

have then check the gallbladder. Mine felt like I was being skewered all the way through by a sword.

The liver and gall bladder are on the right side of your body, but gall bladder pain can radiate and show up in odd places. The left side is where your stomach was, and the largest incision to remove it. The spleen is also on the left side but doesn't usually have any pain causing issues. The suggestion to talk to your doctor is the best one. Better to be examined and told that it is "normal" than to not see the doctor and it gets worse!

Oops, I meant the pain is on the right side.

Adam I agree with Catherine, pls contact your doctor just to be on the safe side. Have them request lab work and an MRI, they will know what do for you. Even though your weeks out, you can still have gad pains. Try to notice if the pain comes on if you haven't had a BM or let gas out. My tummy to left hurt when I having had a BM.

On the other hand, I had my WLS on 11/14.

I've been doing well with exception of not exercising due to injury pain on low pack and right knee.

I had my 8 wk post-op appt last wk and I told the nurse I've been starting to notice pain on my right side, some days are mild but I've noticed after eating the pain comes on and as days go buy I'm starting to feel it more and more She asked me if I had been taking my Actigall med, I replied no, what's it for? She said normally after surgery doctor prescribes Actigall to prevent gall bladder from having to get it removed and Meds helps bile. I told her, no one told or informed me. So I'm going to start taking it tmrw.

My pain is in the right and progressing do not sure if this med will help and if it doesn't she says they will have to order me to go get an MRI.

It's very common for ppl who are or have lost a significant amount of weight. Fingers cross I'm not one of them.

Hope you feel better and keep us posted as to what advice your doctors gives you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
