Congratulations on getting your date!

A couple of suggestions to prepare for your pre-op diet and post-op life...

* If you drink caffeine, start weening yourself off. (I had to be caffeine free before I started my two week pre-op diet). You don't want to go thru caffeine withdrawal while you're recovering.

* Practice taking smaller bites - I used appetizer forks and spoons.

* Practice eating slower - I downloaded an app called Eat Slower. You set the intervals you want and it chimes when it's time to take a bite.

* Practice chewing your food 20-30 times - this is how you're going to eat post-op.

* Practice mindful eating - turn off the TV, radio, don't read. Just eat your food slowly - you will be surprised at how you slow down and the feeling of full you feel.

* Start incorporating shakes into your day - experiment with different flavors and textures. This will help in post-op life. (Don't overbuy your shake mix - your tastes may change after surgery.)

* If you aren't exercising, start. This will help in your recovery.

This is an exciting time for you!!!! February 6th is right around the corner!

Ok so tomorrow I start my 2 week diet. It's not completely liquid as I get a bar a day but still won't be easy.

The thing is that for the past six months I had been talking about how the day before I would go all out on food and have a wonderful steak dinner.

Well I've been sick for the last three days and have had no appetite. Today I had oatmeal for fb and a lunchables for lunch.

I'm not craving ANYTHING. The only reason I feel I should eat is bc this is it for a while you know. Although with time I will be able to enjoy those foods again, it just feels like I need to gobble it all down.

But not tonight, tonight I'm having baby carrots and grilled chicken for dinner. And it's only because I need my Protein after the kick ass workout I did. If I did go out I would probably be forcing myself to eat.

Let's hope I feel the same the next three days as I heard they are the hardest lol

Ok blabbing over :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
