curlyRNYgirl999 2 Posted January 15, 2014 I wanted to share some of my fears with revision surgery. I am only two weeeks away from my operation and I am starting to get nervous about my life afterwards. I figured I could share my fears along with others and hopefully get some support as well. So here goes. These are my top fears about revision surgery: I wont lose any weight or hardly any. I wont be able to follow doctor orders and may cause myself complications. I will come out of surgery only to find they couldn't do it after all. I will not feel as much restriction as I did with the band. I will only lose weight for a short time like with the band, and then start gaining it all back I have more fears but these are the most prominent. I guess this whole journey with the band has just scarred me in some ways and made me doubt the power of surgery, even though I know from seeing my friends and family who have done it that it works. I guess I worry since I chose the band first, things wont be the same for me and it wont work as well. Share your fears with me.
pumpkin73 21 Posted January 17, 2014 I completely understand. I was scared too. I had my revision on 10/10/13. Lapband removal, hiatal hernia repair and bypass all at once. It's natural to be scared but you will do just fine. According to my doctor, the hardest part of my surgery was the hernia. I was in bad shape due to that band. I had a good recovery. I'm now 3 months and doing fine. I am a slow loser. I've only lost 35 pounds but I was expecting to lose slow...being that I had a revision. I do have restrictions. My struggle now is the Water and Protein. But I'm am being positive that everything will get better in due time. I wish you a speedy recovery.
palm 0 Posted January 19, 2014 I'm with pumpkin curly, I'm going in for mine tomorrow. Not to concerned about the surgery, if it doesn't happen all in one surgery then so be it, only concern is Protein and Fluid intake post op
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted January 19, 2014 So, I'm the girl that woke up after band removal only to discover they couldn't do my revision to RNY....too much damage and inflammation, too risky to revise at that time. Six months later I got my RNY. The first few weeks in between totally sucked. I was an emotional mess. Mad at my body, mad at myself, mentally a mess. But time moved on and next month I'm 1 year post RNY. I have lost much slower than my bariatric surgery virgin counterparts. But I've lost and it has been so much easier than my band ever was. At 5'6 and 195', I'm about 40 pounds from a healthy weight. I can eat small amounts of almost anything. I never get stuck, slime, throw up. I never have pain. I do dump and still get random bouts of nausea from time to time. I no longer feel starved or deprived. It has been fabulous. You'll do fine and are normal to have fears . You'd be crazy not to!!!!! 3 ForeverFat?, Doer and amella reacted to this
Doer 14 Posted March 20, 2014 Soccer Momma, thanks SO MUCH for giving me hope that maybe next year I will be in the same spot. The band made me terribly sick, all the time. So I'm glad to be rid of it. But because it made me terribly sick (and I could hardly eat!) I lost tons of weight, and kept it off as long as I had that band! I had the bypass five weeks ago, and the weight loss is much much slower this time. But I'm never sick, ever. Never nauseus, ever. I never have reflux or gird. I do feel constantly hungry (they tell me I'm not really hungry, because that's been cut!) but I feel "empty." And in nearly six weeks I've lost about 17 pounds - nothing like the huge losses when I first got the band. Again, thanks!
