I just had lap band surgery on the 9th and I have been reading allot about sliming and pb's I was really hoping someone could tell me how often food becomes stuck and slimming occurs? My doctor informed me about the pb's but I never heard anything about sliming so I am a little freaked out.

Sliming happens when food builds up in front of the stoma and in the pouch. It then backs up into the esophagus. It can happen if you eat too fast, too much, take too large of a bite and quite often with dry meats like leftover chicken. As long as you follow the rules for bandster's, it shouldn't happen.

If you're too tight from fills or swelling, this can also cause food to get stuck in the pouch and back up into the esophagus. The throat is trying to aid the excess food to slide through with overwhelming saliva.

Some never experience sliming and PB'ing. Nothing to really fear. It happens. Dozens of times for me.

my doctor feels as if 3 times a month is to much. it's nothing to be afraid of. just really pay attention to your pouch and band while you are eating. they will tell you before you eat to fast,to much or to big. just don't take the one more bite, this is the bite of food that will give you the trouble. you will do fine.

I have yet to PB or slime. But I have had a couple of stuck episodes. Both times I could tell that the food wasn't going down like it should. Both times, for some reason, I foolishly thought that I could push it down with another bite. This lead to feeling like I had swallowed a golf ball. I had pain under my sternum and I felt like I had food and liquid sitting in the back of my throat. Fortunately I was able to work through these episodes but I'm pretty sure they could have easily turned into pb or sliming episodes. Both times I was eating chicken breast, too big of bites, too fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
