Oh they will get real old by the time you have anything that you could consider food let me tell ya!

I was banded Jan/04 and have been through the ropes! If you have any questions that I can answer I would be happy to.

As for the pain...I think its the gas from being under, its pretty common and I find that alot of people say it goes in a couple of days. Get walking around and it will go away that much faster.

Good Luck

Hi Joe!

Congrats on getting your surgery and welcome to LBT! juice is a good option. They make lots of Lite and Healthy Balance options, now.

The Healthy Option cranberry only has 15 calories a cup - and it is a nice change. If you get bored, start throwing SF flavored syrups into Water... or into juice. Change it up as much as you can.

Find some clear liquid Protein drinks, too. Protein will help to fill you up. I use IDS New whey. 42 grams of protein in a little test tube. I cut mine with filtered Water or mix it with Propel. It's a little like drinking melted Jello, straight. **Personally, I stick to the Orange flavor. fruit punch is less exciting. I haven't tried any other flavors.

You can buy it on-line, here. http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_by_79.htm

Be sure to get the 42 gram ones, vs the 25 gram older version. More bang for your buck.

It is important to follow your Doc's instructions, especially now. If you feel weak, or you are more than normally tired, call your doc and see if you can add milky Protein shakes in. They tend to be more filling.

Good Luck!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
