Insurance Stalling?

Recommended Posts

Okay so my bariatric coordinator has been trying for 2 weeks to reach my insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas to confirm that my plan covers the sleeve. However she can't get through to them. BCBSTX is saying they are still updating their policies. My coordinator said it wasn't only BCBSTX but also Illinois and Alabama as well as other insurance providers. Anyone else being stalled for policy updates?

It must have something to do with all the new healthcare policies going into effect in 2014. I have BCBSTX and my approval went through very quickly, but that was last year.

I hope mine goes through quickly too but I'm starting to get nervous. I know the time to be nervous is after I submit my paperwork for approval but I feel like if its this hard to just get a explanation of benefits then I may be in for quite the waiting game. I'm not a very patient person. LOL!

I had a horrible experience with Blue Cross / Blue Shield of CA and Delta Health System. My bills from my surgery on 5/23/13 have still not been paid properly and that was after I fought them for 4 months to get pre-approval of my surgery. I hope your experience is much better than mine, but be prepared to call and raise heck with them on a regular basis. Good luck, I can tell you that all the heart ache and frustration of dealing with the insurance issues was worth it in the long run. I'm down 90 pounds in the past year!

Laylaj,

I have the same insurance company. It was submitted back in October and I just received the 1st letter of approval today. I felt the same as you. Good Luck!

DizNeeGirl, congrats on your approval! I hope I am approved. From what I have read everyone is getting approved even if it takes awhile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
