Feeling Hungry 4 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I had Surgery on 12/19/2013. When I started the pre-op liquid diet I weighed 307 pounds, on the day of surgery I weighed 294 pounds, and today i weigh 272 pounds for a total weight loss of 35 pounds since i started the VSG journey and 22 pounds since surgery. I'm walking 30-40 minutes every day and after my 2 week post-op appointment i was cleared to lift weights and have been working out with weights 3 times a week. Not sure if it's the exercise but i find myself getting hungry about an hour after eating. Other than the quantity restriction i can eat anything already. Is it normal to feel hungry. My current calorie intake is about 1,000 - 1,200 calories / day.

Hi there.

Congrats on your success! You're doing great.

I found myself getting hungry when I increased my exercise as well - I think it's normal. One thing you might want to try to make sure it's true hunger you're feeling is taking a Prilosec or something similar - it could be acid that is giving you that feeling.

Increasing exercise always made me feel incredibly hungry. Maybe you can try adding salsa or spaghetti sauce to some foods to bulk up what you're eating. I've also heard Protein bars and shakes right after working out help muscle recovery and curb the appetite. I am looking forward to getting back into the bars again myself. ( I was sleeved on 12/18! Get weighed again tomorrow.)

Sounds like you're doing great! Keep it up!

I expect to be cleared for strength training when I go in for my three week appointment on Thursday. One thing I have discovered at this point is "tongue hunger". I don't feel like my new tummy needs anything, but I just want to taste something! So, out come the sugar free popsicles and whey Protein nibbles. If the increased exercise amps my appetite, I will just have to make sure that there are small protein dense Snacks ready to grab.
