ht3013 2 Posted January 14, 2014 For all the Mexico sleevers out there I have a question! If you have or have had a complication when you got home did your insurance cover it? Did you buy complication insurance? If so, did you use it? How did you approach your PCP about having this surgery abroad? Thank you in advance for your comments
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted January 14, 2014 I was just up front and honest with my PCP about the whole thing. Since then she has taken care of all my needs whether it is directly resulting from my surgery or not. I have Blue Shield of CA. Talk to your PCP and get an idea of where their head might be. I think it will all depend on bedside manner, but it is not unheard of to have your PCP do your follow-up care. Good luck. For all the Mexico sleevers out there I have a question! clk 3,519 Posted January 15, 2014 I told my PCM, too, and had no issues with them doing my labs or prescribing me supplements when needed. I did not purchase additional insurance because I did a huge amount of research on my surgeon and felt very confident in his ability. That said, if you have a very real concern and it will reassure you, go ahead. I just plain told my doctor I was having the surgery and wouldn't hear arguments. My insurance doesn't cover the sleeve and I wasn't about to get a surgery I didn't want. Once it's done, it's done. They can disapprove but that's not my issue, that's on them. ~Cheri Also, I'm just giddy that I've been away from the boards for a while and came back on a day that Diva popped in, too. 1 LilMissDiva Irene reacted to this
ht3013 2 Posted January 15, 2014 Thank you both for your comments. I have an appointment with my PCP in a few days. Most of the stories I have seen on here are positive with no complications but there are a few horror stories too and I wouldn't want to put my family in a financial mess if I ended up in the hospital and my insurance won't cover it. 1 LilMissDiva Irene reacted to this
