Serious constipation and laxatives

Recommended Posts

Friends please help me. I've been seriously constipated the last week.

Only pooped once and it wasnt a lot. It was kind of like clay and greenish in colour.

I've been having a fee stool softeners, but it isnt doing the trick. Is it safe for me to take a laxative like laxa? I am 9 months post op. never had a probem like this.

Please help!!!

Tried flaxseeds as well, nothing, feel so bloated!

I was going to say try milk of magnesia but depending on where you are, you may not be able to get it.

Hi there, thank you so much, but i dont know where to get that.

Did anyone get an expressed instruction not to ever use a laxative? Even in emergencies as last resort?

That is what i want to know. If it can cause something terrible in us or not.

Please help out, friends!

I swear by psyllium husks (ispagula) but not sure if you can take this post op...

Try asking the team who did your op.

Hope you find an answer soon

I went through that a few weeks ago, when I wasn't drinking enough Water and eating enough food. To get a movement going, I used a saline douche. Becareful that you don't develop a bowel obstruction. The best advice I can give you: Talk to your doctor.

I would check with your doctor but don't wait too long. I did and ended up with in the er with a severe bowel impaction. I now take stool softeners and miralax if I need to. Good luck!

Milk of magnesia is safe for us to take if we have to. Not sure if it's readily available in South Africa or not tho. Constipation is terrible. I would definitely try to get some relief and things moving and than maybe pick back up with daily stool softeners. I hope it gets better!

I have suffered with Constipation and had a bowel obstruction and hernia. I was warned about constipation after the obstruction and hernia were corrected. Turns out I am very sensitive to Iron in the Multivitamin and that was contributing to my constipation. I can have one or two iron tablets ( low dose) a week and that with the meat I eat provides me with good iron levels. You might want to see if the iron is causing the problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
