Let me introduce myself!

Hello everybody!

I have been checking out this sight for a while now. I find it the greatest resource I have found on the lap band. It gets down to the nitty gritty!

I am having my surgery a week from today. March 29th. Whoohoo!

I am doing this mostly for my kids (okay some of it is vanity) so far I haven't had the health problems related to obesity (but know they are coming) so I have been lucky. I have a 4 year old with Autism who is quite a handful sometimes and a 1 year old. I choose to have this surgery so that I could be more active and live longer. I am a bit older mom (almost 40 yikes!) and need to live as long and as active life as I can for both my kids but mostly for my daughter with Autism.

I am hoping that I can meet some a nice support system on this sight. Since I am a stay at home mom I don't get out enough to always get the adult conversation I need. So if you are looking for a regular emailer buddy or have some of the same issues or if you live near Seattle (I live north of there) I would love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Kristen

P.S. I am sorry about the lame account name. I am so jealous of all you people that have these cute and clever names. I was at a loss....:tired

Hi KCH: Congratulations on your surgery being NEXT WEEK!! :clap2: I have my first appointment with the Dr. tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.. I am excited and ready to move forward.:P

Unlike you, I have developed some health problems. I feel great, but I have these things lurking in my temple, and I know that I have to do something about it before it gets out of hand.

So how long from your first visit were you able to schedule the surgery?

Believe it or not my first consult was last week. Because I am a self payer and healthy I got in really soon!

Originally the first appointment they could see me wasn't until the end of this month. I asked to be on their cancelation list for consultations since I live close by. If I remember correctly they ended up having an opening the very next day.

I am glad I am getting it now. Last year I was on Jenny Craig around this time and was down 2 sizes from here (it didn't last go figure) but I have all these newer spring summer clothes that I was hoping to fit into again.

Looks like I will!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
