Hello,

I had my lapband surgery on 3/13/07. So far so good, except that I am starting to feel a little hungry. My surgeon was Dr. Warden in New Orleans. I am single and live in a suburb outside of New Orleans. I am hoping to lose weight of course and have much better mobility and stamina to live life instead of being a spectator. Hope you all are doing well too.:P

Hi!, Southerngirl I'm hoping to be banded soon. Looking forward to hearing from you. I'm going through the process now. Having tests done Wed. I'm having Dr. Richardson from Oschners do the surgery. Do you know anything about him? Where did you have your surgery? Where in New Orleans?? I'm from down the bayou from Houma.

Hi Southern Girl!

I had my surgery on 3/12/2007 so we are on the same time line! I have noticed that since my abdominal swelling is subsiding that I am feeling hungry also. I am trying to be careful not to overeat because my first fill is not until the 27th. I have to travel to Dallas for my first fill. Good luck on your journey and let me

know how it is going!

Bonjoevs,

I was a self pay. Went to Mexico for surgery.

Hi Babylovestoys,

Snuggles, it is so weird how everyones body is different!

I have restriction right now. It didn't seem to happen until 5 days after my fill. I might be like JACK that posts here, and smaller fills may do the trick for me. Anyway, for right now, it is good. We went out this weekend & I had baked fish which I can usually eat with no problem. Well, I guess I was eating too fast & it felt like I was swallowing an elephant!:( I didn't get sick but it brought tears to my eyes! Well, I will practice eating SLOWER!!!

I still have an appetite. I see things the kids eat & it looks good.

I need to avoid junk food. NO ICE CREAM, which I love but have difficulty with moderation.

How much weight have you lost so far?

LIASIA,

We are close to the same time out with our surgery. You are just 5 pounds under me. That is still good weight loss! You may see some changes after your body adjusts to your fill. How many calories do you eat? Portion sizes? Exercise?

Everyone is different, & loses at different paces but I think its great that you have lost 15 pounds!!! CONGRATS!!! Hang in There!

I eat about 1200 calories a day and I just joined curves so i'm starting to excersise. But now that i have the band i want the weight to come off npw but that's not going to happen which i knew that prior to surgery. i just hope my second fill gives me some type of restriction.

I live in West Monroe, Louisiana. I was band ed on March 9, 2007, just had my second fill. My first one was April 6, 2007 1.5cc and my second one less than a week ago May 4, 2007 they gave me 2.0 cc. I'm at a total fill of 3.5. I think this is a lot. Doctor Barker in Dallas done my surgery and I'm having my fills done @ Vista Hospital in Dallas. I hold very little food and am very satisfied. I've lost 33 pounds so far and it has been 2 months today. I'm feeling great! Hope you are too.

LOSER,

This is where I got my first fill too. I haven't decided when to get the second fill. First one was April 27, 07. 33 pounds is GREAT! I have lost only 20 but every little bit counts! When did you decide that you needed the second fill?

I really didn't decide for a second fill. At Nova Body Solutions in Dallas (Vista Hospital) they say you can come back for your second fill in 4 weeks so I did. It was also kind of getting to where I could eat more than I thought I could. Now I stay full it seems, but I'm still stuck at 30lbs. lost. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. How are you doing?

LOSER,

I am really confused! There are times that I am feeling tight. Last night I ate cottage cheese rather quickly and it felt like it was stuck. It hurt going down but finally subsided. However, I have been able to eat over a cup of food now, normally and I feel really hungry. I gained 3 pounds yesterday. IT HAS TO BE Fluid. How can I gain 3 pounds in one day?

I am thinking I might need to call for another fill, and just eat much slower.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
