Small difference, big smile

Recommended Posts

So I am still pre op but am working really hard on losing as much as i possibly can before surgery and I'm down 31lbs I believe... Anyway not a huge deal but everyone keeps telling me they can really see it in my face, I couldn't... So I found an old picture of me and took one today and I could see it!!! I'm still much over weight but I think I look healthier and it made me smile :)

Looking good Kristina, keep up the good work. The more successful you are losing the pre-op weight the easier the recovery and the adjustment to your new diet. After doing the pre-op diet, following the post-op diet once I could eat solid food again was pretty easy. I still crave certain things I shouldn't eat sometimes, but it is fairly easy to walk away from it as I am seeing good results.

Thanks Brant! I have been making changes over the last few months to help transition into the post op life including taking all the required chewable vitamins, I drink a Protein Shake every morning to help insure I get at least 70g of Protein a day and I have been TRYING to sip my fluids that's the hardest part for me. I'm a Water drinker and a gulper lol. I'm at the gym 5-6 days a week and my first instinct after a good workout is to chug some ice cold water. Other than that I'm satisfied with my food choices and have set a realistic and sustainable work out regimen.

Not a huge deal?! Are you kidding? You are doing beautifully. 31 pounds pre-op is amazing and you should pat yourself on the back. You are going to do so well with this kind of commitment and perseverance. Isn't it funny the way we can't really see ourselves in the mirror sometimes. A picture is worth a thousand word. Thanks for sharing! And good luck with your upcoming surgery. Exciting times....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
